.... I need to replace it, right?! I've got newer foundation & mascara but the blusher / eye shadow compact thingy that I'm using is one I got for my wedding make up in 2009! my budget is minimal and I've read good things on here about the mua stuff in superdrug .... What should I get? I need blusher - what's the cream blusher like? How do you apply it? Any other recommendations? Thanks Smile

Does it matter?

I find mascara and cream eye shadows don't age well. Otherwise I use them until they're finished without probs.

Powder products are fine. Bacteria doesn't thrive unless there is moisture. If you're really worried you can buy some isopropyl alcohol and wipe it over. That will kill any surface bacteria and then evaporate. If there are any shiny patches on the surface of compact powder or eyeshadows that will be oil from your skin on your powder puff or make up brushes. You can take that off by placing a strip of sellotape onto it and pulling it off.

Anything liquid or creamy will go off, although it also depends how much air has got into it. I have foundations that are still fine after a couple of years.

I found some in a drawer when me moved house last week that I got for my 30th birthday. I'm 45 in July.

I binned it.

Starballbunny · 23/01/2014 20:37

I wear it so rarely it's all sorts of ages. I never worry. It meets the bin when crumbles, separates or dries up.

Oblomov · 23/01/2014 20:39

Been wearing the same stuff for years. Oh dear!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 23/01/2014 21:06

I have an Avon eyepencil from when I was 28 (I'm 48 this year) Blush

But mascara? 3 months max

bonvivant · 23/01/2014 21:22

I have some old things in my bag too - never done me any harm!

Wenchelda · 23/01/2014 21:37

Maybe I don't need to go shopping after all then.... Though I'm pretty certain my mascara is more than 3months old (though definitely not 4yrs!) and my blusher is running out so I do need that too.

Toss your mascara. Toss cream or liquid products if they have seperated or changed colour or smell funny. Sharpen pencils. Toss anything that is a colour or texture that you're unlikely to wear.

RonaldMcDonald · 24/01/2014 00:04

chickydoo · 24/01/2014 07:35
