Shopping in York... Any top tips or suggestions?

Hi,
I hope to tap into some expert knowledge on S and B about shopping in York. Next weekend I'll have about three whole blissful hours to myself in York. I've been on a no-spending mission lately so am in need of retail therapy.
Can anyone suggest any great shops in York for clothes, shoes, accessories or home bits, which are different from the usual high street fare in any town? I like Anthropologie, Noa Noa and that kind of thing.

Can't wait....thanks to anyone who replies.

Try Purple Haze on Walmgate for vintage, Whistles, Jigsaw and White Company on Stonegate and Reiss and Noa Noa on Petergate.

Sadly Sarah Coggles has closed down - that was wonderful Hmm

French Connection has a great sale on at the moment.

Fenwicks has Mac, All Saints, Whistles, Hobbs, Great Plains, Phase 8 and Mint Velvet all under one roof, too.

Thank you. I'll be dusting off that debit card in anticipation!

There's a Lakeland if you love kitchen/laundry bits.

I believe there's a Mulberry factory store in York...

Ambassadoryouarespoilingme · 22/01/2014 19:28

Hmmmmm, Mulberry... That's tempting although probably beyond my reach. But am confused... There seems to be a mulberry outlet on Stonegate and one in an out of town outlet called MacarthurGlen. Does anyone know if one is more bargainous or are they both standard full price shops?
Thank you

There's no Mulberry shop at the York McArthur Glen - only at the the Cheshire Oaks one, so stick to factory shop in Swinegate.

McArthur Glen designer outlet is worth a visit if you have time: Reiss, French Connection, Coast, Ted Baker, Joules, White Stuff, Kooples, Crew, Paul Smith and many more! But not Mulberry.

Pollywallywinkles · 22/01/2014 19:39

There isn't a Mulberry outlet at MacArthur Glenn.

The Mulberry Outlet in Swinegate is about 30% off the normal retail price.

Thank you all. Roll on next weekend. Grin

Ooh I love York.
Agree Fenwicks good, plus jigsaw,Noa Noa etc.
Shame about Sarah Coggles.

I used to live in York and visit often. Stone gate is good for higher end chain stores. Coney street has the normal chain stores such as next and explore the square for m&s gap etc copper gate hS fen wicks and m&s.

I do miss living in York it's so much better now for shopping than when I lived there.

I'm not sure if it's open but they were building a huge john Lewis just down the road from monks cross which is an out of city shopping centre. It's not a mall or outlet has monsoon next new look etc a big car park with shops around the edge!! Not worth a visit as a destination but if you're passing.

Used to spend vast majority of my wages in Sarah coggles before spending my weekends catching the train to go clubbing in Leeds or rave nights at the church that's now a cafe. Used to be milk and honey. Ah those were the days Wink
