Best jeans/jeggings for long and lanky 9 year old??

DD desperately needs some trousers for the colder weather, as she is skinny she tends to like leggings as they are soft around her waist, but they are not very warm. So I'd like to get her some soft cords, or coloured denim maybe rather than plain denim but denim would also do. She is 9 and her height is 135 so she falls above the usual age 8-9 band but if I go up to 10-11 they are falling off her. Any suggestions for good brands? Next do a slim fit but it looks like they are mainly school trousers. Thanks

Watching with interest. My 9 year old is a similar build and we find H&M skinnies a good fit. She has Boden trousers too, but the ones that fit her on the waist are on the short side. Supermarket and Primark jeans and leggings are far too roomy at the waist if they fit her length wise. It was so much easier when she only wore skirts!

DD is 14 and we still have this problem.

I think, over the years, we've probably had most success with H&M. You do have to look at all the different styles though as some are better than others.

Gap and Zara occasionally had some too.

I get my dd (8) leggings jeggings skinnys from river island but I have to go the size down as there big made, they do some lovely fashionable clothes

Gap skinny cords and pull the inner elastic around the waist to make them tighter. My DD is so skinny that they look like 'straight' cut on her rather than 'skinny'.

Gap again for leggings or own brand Mothercare.

H&M are good for long thin children and some of the Next skinny jeans have been a good fit, but the Next ones seem to vary.

Millipedewithherfeetup · 21/01/2014 21:39

My dd was exactly the same very long of leg slim of waist I found french clothes fitted her perfectly, try la redoute, or see what french childrens clothes are available online, I used to buy from a shop called jennifer, french equivalent to new look, usually got her 5or so pairs at a time whilst we were on holiday, they did not do online then but may of changed now.

I have a DD like this (just 10 and 148cm tall) and we go with H&M every time. Size 11-12 fits her well. The stretchy super skinny jeans are great. She has had a turquoise pair from there as well as plain denim. Their skinnies OK but not as snug a fit as she likes.

Have had a good pair from Gap in the past but couldn't find anything last time we went.

Bought her Boden legging jeans last year as the reviews all complained how tight they came up - unfortunately still baggy on her!

gruffalosmile · 21/01/2014 21:52

Hi all thanks have just ordered a few different pairs from H&M and we'll see how we get on with those. Might also have a look at Gap. Thanks!

DD has H&M which sort of fit (IME their sizing is random) and 2xnext and M&S which are better.

Gap works for us and once into adult sizes (aged 12!) it's great as you can choose different lengths and waist sizes. I only buy in the sales thoughSmile

Dontletthemgetyoudown · 21/01/2014 22:07

M&s jeggings are great for dd who is a tall slim 7 year old a nice fitted look. Also gap slim leg jeans. Boden ones are usually too short if they fit in the waist.

badasahatter · 21/01/2014 22:08

DD is now 13 and in ladies jeans, but til recently, she was in kids sizes. She loved H&M and Next for jeans. It all got much easier when she was in size 6. She then did Hollister and Jack Wills. With the latter, I always buy in the sales.

I have the same problem with my 9 year old and find La Redoute very good (she has some lovely skinny cords from there this winter), and Sainsbury's stuff is very long and thin too.

LadyGreenTea · 21/01/2014 22:34

Just after Christmas I bought my age 11 / 159cm tall daughter a pair of burgandy cords from Zara, in age 13-14. Good length, the elasticated waist pulled in tight plus they were in the sale so extra good :) We're finding Zara to be good for long legs, sometimes H&M trousers don't have an adjustable waist, which DD definitely needs.

Snowdown · 21/01/2014 22:52

H&m here too with some success in Gap. Am going to try the Johnnie B range from Boden - they do 2 different lengths in the boys anyway, dd is fine for the moment.

bryte · 21/01/2014 23:02

zara work well for my skinny minnie. She's 143cm and wearing age 10 or 10-11

NorbertDentressangle · 22/01/2014 13:47

The crazy thing with the sizing in H&M is that 14 yo DD fits some of their adult Size 6 jeans and jeggings (which are so teeny, tiny that you can't imagine an adult ever getting into them!) but their Age 12-13 things are way too large!

Surely your average 12-13 year old isn't larger than an adult Size 6?

What also amazes me is how small a 'size 0' (as spoken about in relation slebs like Victoria Beckham) must be !
IIRC a Size 0 is a UK 4 so they would be a size smaller than the jeans my uber-skinny 14 yo DD is wearing Shock

Starballbunny · 22/01/2014 15:33

yes my almost 13y 5'3 DD2 fits Dotty p's size 6 adult clothes way better than age H&M (and others) 13-14 kids which fall off her and 11-12 kids stuff which is too short.

Very, very annoying as adults stuff is dearer.
