Cos - who is their target market?

I bought a dress in the sale at Cos. I love it and it suits me. DH loves it as it's quite fitted!! Had I seen it online on the model I would never have bought it. We then looked at the rest of their range and although some of it is lovely it just all seems quite shapeless. Quite androgynous I suppose. I just wondered who buys their clothes I suppose.

Tall, slim and flat chested here too and my Mum, who is also a fan, loves simple clothes so much she once got mistaken for a nun! ( She was at a church music conference).

Good grief I just scanned through - what an awful site.

I'd forgotten about Cos, used to have a dress and a couple of jumpers some years back which I really liked - but the pictures just don't do anything for me.

I think the website is uninspiring but I always like something when I go into the shop .

I adore cos. I'd say a third of my wardrobe is cos. I am a 36 year old non arty sahm type! But i am tall fairly slim and flat chested. Their clothes just work on me and my style is very minimalist, i hate fuss, lace, bright colours etc. boring basically!

I love Cos clothes, but they look buggering awful on me. I am overendowed with hips and tits, with my only redeeming feature being my waist. Having something, however stylish and beautifully cut, hanging directly from my boobs to my hips, is not flattering.

A friend of mine wears a lot of Cos and each and every garment is very square and boxy.

Their clothes always remind me of the workers overalls in communist china.

I am 5 ft 2ins and rather hourglass so most of their stuff looks terrible on me.

I mostly wear navy and wear so I wear a heck of a lot of COS, in fact, I literally could not get dressed without it. (Today I'm wearing three COS items.) If I was tall and and without any hint of curve I'd probably wear even more than I do. I wish they did a 32 as I have to get most of their skirts taken in on the waist. Their trousers do not work on me at all, but as someone who rarely wears trousers, that's not so much of a loss.

One thing I've learnt with COS is that most things have absolutely no hanger appear and you have to try everything on. Be prepared that the knitwear doesn't wash at all well but I guess that's a testament to how much I love their stuff that I still buy it.
I love how most things are incredibly timeless and seasonless, and are the lynchpins of my wardrobe.

On a side note, I don't wear Camper shoes though, I think they're hideous!

4 foot 11 norky hour-glass here. I like the simple style of the clothes but they are definitely not cut for someone like me.

Awful dreary web site, suspect some of the clothes are actually nice, £10-20 over my budget.

OP! I also got that dress in the sale and it looks great on! Have had loads of compliments Grin

I am also a v dull professional type and I wear it to work. The suit is kinda gone I find and so I wear a lot of dresses or trousers with a smart shirt.

I really like their stuff, have loads and wear it a lot both to work and sort of smart casual. I think it is v chic and quite edgy at times.

Love it! Wish there were more labels like that.

Otherwise, I tend to shop Whistles, Zara, M&S, Massimo Dutti.

I think I will have to make myself try things on in Cos. The comments about the clothes not looking great on the hanger are spot on!

I wear cos most days at work. Dress tights and shoes - done!
I love their clothes for my work wardrobe.
I am mid 30s and work in the city.

i always assumed they were for lanky rectangular people, and having surrendered my rectangular citizenship upon childbearing assumed not for me.

fitted dress sounds encouraging tho, now if only i could get over how damn expensive their stuff was

Right, just been back again for another look. Still think they look hideous. It's like living in a parallel universe - I love Style and Beauty!

Look where? In the shop? If I had only seen the website I would never buy there either. I also have several three quarter sleeve fine kinit tops with shaped hem.

Report
Floisme · 21/01/2014 14:11

No, not in the shop - there isn't one where I live. But next time I am anywhere near one I will go and do some trying on and report back. I'd love to be proved wrong!

May be if their models on the website stood less like robots and maybe smiled it might make the clothes look a little better. Still maybe they can't be doing that bad if they have so many shops!

I'm a real Cos fan too. I'm off for the weekend soon to a city that has a Cos store, can't wait for a good rummage! I'll also be looking for the slouchy jumper that was linked to on the first page Grin

Actually I've just been looking at the jewelry (I think you mentioned that, Noddy?) and there are some things there that I like.

It's the high street answer to Jill Sanders style, so people who like minimalist things. I really like it because it is one of the only places where you can get things made from cotton, silk , mainly natural fabrics etc. although in recent times more poly/poly mix is creeping in. I only buy in sale though.
