Can someone talk to me about Storksaks?

Have a trip to New York coming up when DD will be 9 months and I'm looking for a bag for the flight/days out in the city. I currently just have a bag I need to turn upside down to find anything in so need to be more organised.

I was thinking pacapod but think the pods mean there isn't much other room in the bag so was looking at Storksak.

I like the look of Bobby, Bailey and a Poppy but wondering if Bobby & Bailey a bit big for carrying round during the day.

I have a Storksak (Emily) and found it useful on short flights but too heavy and cumbersome for carrying all day long. We traveled all over the world (to places like New York, Miami, Moscow, Bogota and Sao Paulo) with my babies and mostly I just bunged a diaper, some wipes and a ziploc with a jar of baby food, bib and the spoon in my handbag. On the plane, i had a diaper changing kit (in a plastic bag) and a feeding kit (the ziploc) as a part of my hand luggage. I found a lightweight backpack that contained a spare set of clothes for myself and the baby plus the kit much more useful than a diaper bag - it left my hands free. I also wore a sling: terminal transfers can be very long and the subway (in most cities, including NYC) is incompatible with strollers. The Storksak is both too heavy and too small to be really useful.

Remember that if you take too much stuff along on your outings, you will get tired very quickly. We usually got either a suite in a hotel or rented an apartment in the area we wanted to explore and made short forays into the city, returning to the premises for major diaper changes etc. Restaurants can be a stressful experience with a baby too, so we ordered in quite a lot, especially in the evening.

I've chosen Storksak Nina for #2 as I think it will be big enough for baby and toddler paraphernalia. It should be big enough for a flight too.

Rejected the paccapod for the same reason as you.

I rejected the leather Storksaks as I was worried about weight.

Here's a review of the Nina:

Frugal I was wondering about the weight of the Storksak - is discounted the Elizabeth for that reason. I will be taking my sling but I'll have a stroller as well. DH is going to be there as well and it's not our first trip to New York so we kind of know what we're doing (although our first trip with DD)

pasta will check out the Nina

Starting to think what I want doesn't exist

I have an Elizabeth for DC2, at first I worried about the weight of it, but actually I find it surprisingly easy to carry around and it holds loads. Would highly recommend. I've had lots of compliments on it, I got in the chalk colour way which isn't as common.

I have an Elizabeth in navy and find it really useful for carting all the kids' things around. The bag itself isn't heavy but I do tend to fill it with loads of crap as it's quite big!

We have a leather Storksak Jamie and it's great. DH carries it with no qualms. I wouldn't say it's heavy either. Excellent quality.

I have a tanya bee which because it is fabric is extremely light. It's incredibly comfy to carry and can fit in loads. I would always load it up but it's nice to have the spare space to bung a blanket or cardigan in that aren't needed at that time.

Il Tutto's Nico bag is your answer. Very lightweight and perfect for flights and large enough for you and baby. It has enough pockets and a zip out lining. www.mummyandlittleme.co.uk/il-tutto-baby-changing-bags-3478-0.html

HelgatheHairy · 20/01/2014 20:13

I just watched the video of the Tanya bee. The amount of stuff that was fitted in there was incredible

Loving the look of the patent red nico Il Tutto bag but it's a bit more than I wanted to spend.

I'm so confused!

I can highly recommend the Olivia. I had the Elizabeth with first DC but it faded badly and I just wanted a new one for DS. The Olivia is lightweight, has masses of storage and you can wear it on the long strap across the body, on the shoulder or the shorter straps still fit over the shoulder. I think it's much more useful than the Elizabeth.
