Best DIY blonde hair dye...

I used to have a full set of highlights at thr hairdresser, but due to recent mega expenditure can not currently afford it. I dyed my hair with a l'oreal kit which hasn't come up nearly as light as I would have liked, or indeed as light as the rest of my hair.

My roots are beginning to come back through and I would like to delay the hairdresser for another couple of months.

Can anyone recommend a decent at home dye? I am not afraid of using something quite strong/light and also have a hairdressers wholesalers near by, so could pick something up from there.

Help me avoid crazy multicoloured hair any further! :)

I use a warm honey blond loreal colour and then after I hand draw on highlights , so I have a nice natural colour. I put more highlights around the front as its more flattering.

How do you apply a highlighting kit then?

My phone is killing me!

How do you hand draw highlights on?

I've been using this: kit.

I started for the same reasons as yourself and although it's a bit time consuming to pull your hair through the cap, the results are brilliant. It takes 20 mins to turn my dark mouse hair into light golden blonde.

I use a medium highlight kit, mix it up then using the brush provided I just literally draw the bleach where I want my highlights. More natural than the cap method I find and it gets closer to the roots too.

YouHaveBeenOutbid · 20/01/2014 16:09

Milly, how do you do the underneath bits without it all sticking together and bleeding onto bits you don't want it to?

MillyRules · 21/01/2014 10:47

I use a warm honey blond dye by Loreal first to lighten hair to........warm honey blond lol....then I use the Loreal highlight kit linked ti by someone else. As nt hair is already now a lighter blond shade I just draw on the highlights where I want them. If it touches somewhere I don't want I either remove it with baby wipe or leave it as it doesn't matter with my hair colour anyway. I don't bother with the underneath as I'm after a natural effect as if the Sun has done it.Smile
