My mum died on Wednesday, so I need something for my son to wear to his Nanny's funeral. He lives in hoodys and jeans. He is about 5'2", but has long arms and a long torso, but it very skinny. He has just grown out of Fatface boys in the body, but is too small for their mens.

I don't want to spend too much as I don't know if he will wear it again, but I do want something other than a plain white school shirt, so he could wear it again with jeans maybe if he wanted to. Want him to feel smart but himself.

Sorry to hear of your loss panda.
My son who is skinny and long in the body gets slim fit shirts in a 14" collar from, primark, river Island and next. Hope that helps.

So sorry for your loss OP. A very sad time indeed. I have been to a fair few funerals recently and dress is far less formal than it used to be( especially amongst young people)

I too have a skinny, long armed fourteen year old and find that Top Man extra small is a good fit and not too expensive. M&S do an age 14 in Autograph which is pricier but good quality.
Good luck with everything.

H&M do cheap suit trousers and slim fit shirts for his age.

yes - I don;t want him to be too formal - I don't expect him to wear a tie, as that would be completely alien to him ( unless he wants to).

I am not going to be too formal - I will be wearing a grey skirt with a pattern through, and a bright pink top (and grey cardi) that she saw me wear when I visited her in hospital on Boxing Day and she liked very much.

I will try Top Man and MandS too. :)

Try Gap. I find their sizing good for skinny.

You can order online and collect in store. Might save a bit of time?

thanks very much all. Have been able to send links to DH to suggest to DS. I am staying with my DDad currently to help sort everything out.

It is a very sad time, thanks for condolences, but I am glad to be able to help Dad.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I went through the same thing myself only a few months ago. There are really no words I can offer as comfort but I believe it gets easier in time. It has to.

I bought chinos in m&s children's dept and polo style collared t shirts Size small in Zara men's dept for my tall skinny boys. At this time of year maybe a long sleeve polo shirt would suit.

The other thing I would say is that the young staff especially in Top Man have always been very helpful. DS2 hates shopping so I buy his clothes and return as necessary. Unless you go in on a busy Saturday I find the assistants keen to make suggestions and run back and forth to the stockroom for me.
They are all so young they can relate to being 14 far better than I can!
