And honestly, I thought I'd been more restrained in the past year or so. But lessons learnt:

  • a poncho makes me look pregnant
  • do not buy clothes to slim into
  • cowl necks do not suit me
  • if you can't walk in the shoes, then don't buy them no matter how pretty they are
  • do not buy things in duplicate in different colours - you will only wear one
  • black does not suit me - buy no more black ever!

I do love a good wardrobe clear out though.

eBay it!

Kahlua4me · 18/01/2014 17:52

Ha ha, I have been doing exactly the same today! Amazing the clothes I found that certainly do not suit me. Very pleased too, as I haves been dieting and have been able to throw away lots that are now too big. Very proud of myself I am!

I am also not going to buy anything else in black, simply drains all colour from my face.

MrsCampbellBlack · 18/01/2014 17:56

I can't be faffed to ebay - but women's refuge shop locally so will drop it there.

Well a few bits with labels still attached Blush will go to the dress agency in town.

It is rewarding though isn't it Kahlua?

This is my favourite activity in the world. I have become really ruthless this year. Rules for me:
Same as you re black. Will consider only classic black pencil skirt, or black jeans. Never near my face.
I can't really do jumpers - torso too long.
Cheap jackets = false economy. Goodbye.
Ditto cheap jeans.

I agree with all of your lessons learnt especially the one about buying the same thing in different colours. I cleared my wardrobe out this week and gave a couple of bags to the charity shop so at least I can see what is in my wardrobe now, as it was such a mess.
Kahlua - congrats on the weight loss!

  • don't be afraid to take things back if there's any detail you don't like about them, don't be lazy woman
  • shorts that leave faint red marks on your thighs after you've taken them off are too tight dear
  • why do I keep buying shirts? I NEVER wear them.
  • jumpers from the men section size L rarely fall exactly the way you want them to.....
  • checked skirts.....no, no. I can't pull it off. I look like I'm in school again.

it is therapeutic innit!

I agree about cheap jackets being a false economy. No more 'bargains' from H&M

I am old enough to know what suits me now, and what I will wear without fail.

  • Knee length dresses for weekends - easy and no-brainer dressing.
  • Silk tops - flattering and kind of swish, but not tight and annoying. Wedges for summer.
  • Handbags that are big enough - no matter how much I love tiny little ones, I end up not using them.
  • Some shops just work for me: Hobbs, Jigsaw, Whistles. Means I spend much less time schlepping around random shops feeling fat and old.

Ooh MrsCampbellBlack my local women's refuge charity shop is an absolute gold mine for second hand clothes - wonder if it's the same one Smile

I have to confess to buying a bargain jacket in H&M last week Blush Haven't worn it yet but will soon, honest!

"if you can't walk in the shoes, then don't buy them no matter how pretty they are". Oh. Do you mean like the very high red satin evening heels I bought when DD1 was a baby, over 4 years ago, that still have their tags on? Blush I do like looking at them, though Smile
