Clueless and in need of help...

So, I'm going out for the first time in months (yay!). To the theatre in London and then out for dinner. We're going with some friends who are quite "cool", not in the fashion sense, but just kind of effortless (IYSWIM).

I need something to wear that doesn't look like I've made too much effort. Something comfy (I'm a home girl at heart) but stylish, but not dress (my legs are a shocker). Something with jeans would be great.

I'm 5'5 and size 8-10. Straight up and down, hardly any curves and very fair with short brown hair.

Any ideas???

What about something like this with statement jewellery! skinny jeans and heels? I use that sort of outfit as my back up casual/smart go to.

InPursuitOfOblivion · 18/01/2014 21:34

I second skinny jeans, and blouse top. Very a la mode but easy to wear.
I'd wear mine with ballet flats though cos I have wobbly ankles!

InPursuitOfOblivion · 18/01/2014 21:36

Or leather look leggings seeing as you are slim. Everyone is wearing them at the mo.

KiwiBanana · 18/01/2014 21:40

Ooh yeah I forgot about leggings for the slim! If you struggle in heels then wedges are a lot easier to walk in.

frankietwospots · 18/01/2014 21:57

Agree about leather look leggings. I am the same shape and height as you so we can definitely get away with them! I got mine from Next but they don't have them anymore. However, M&S have some with good reviews: www.marksandspencer.com/Collection-Front-Leather-Panelled-Leggings/dp/B002PSORF4

How about aiming for a look like this?

You could maybe wear leopard heels? Again, M&S just to get an idea: www.marksandspencer.com/Collection-Animal-Print-Stiletto-Court/dp/B00CQF5PR0?rrClickthru=Search

Forgot to say, a blazer with a metallic/sequinned front tank top is another good option with skinnies. Zara and Top Shop are both good for stylish blazers.

InPursuitOfOblivion · 18/01/2014 22:06

Oooh I like your ideas Frankie! Wish I was slim and could get away with this stuff!

JanuaryShoes · 18/01/2014 23:37

These are brilliant! Thank you so much!

So, having looked again I'm too chicken for the open heels! Any other ideas of boots, wedges or pumps?

OP posts:
JanuaryShoes · 19/01/2014 10:35

Also, can I get away with leather leggings at nearly 40???

OP posts:
frankietwospots · 19/01/2014 10:38

God yes to the age question! You have the figure and they are surprisingly easy and elegant to wear. Not sure what size shoe you are but I'm gutted I didn't get these when they had my size in stock:

InPursuitOfOblivion · 19/01/2014 12:15

Age is irrelevant in this situation! If you were planning to wear leggings with stripper style platforms and a crop top. I would have said perhaps reconsider. (Aside from the fact it would look awfully cheap!) but worn properly leather can look very chic on any age.

JanuaryShoes · 19/01/2014 21:24

Frankie - you're a star! The boots are out of stock in my size but I have a pair of black suede boots that might work. I love the loafer ones but I find m & s shoes come up too wide on me.

I'm feeling a bit old and wrinkly at the moment. Maybe leather leggings are just what I need Smile

Honestly, you will look in the mirror and think 'What a fox!' They must fit tight to your legs though. No Nora Batty wrinkles! Check your back view too. I tried several pairs of M&S faux leather jeggings before Xmas and they were v wrinkly at the back. That's why I love my Next ones with their smooth fit. Let us know how you get on!
