Do you mix your workwear and weekend wardrobes?

I am sorting clothes and there is a lot I keep for work only (shirts etc though I suit shirts more that other tops).

I notice I have started to wear my good stuff to work over the last few years and while pregnant it was totally transferable as I bought a lot and wanted to use it.

Jeans are for weekends and keep good coats for going out / Sundays etc.

Since I meet more people at work, I tend to make more effort but once I wear a top to work it doesn't feel special.

Just interested are other people the same.

My home and work wardrobes are pretty much entirely separate from each other. My style is naturally quite casual - I wear a lot of sweatshirts, jeans, graphic t-shirts, high tops - and my job pretty corporate, so the smart dresses I wear to work are used exclusively for that purpose.

eurochick · 18/01/2014 09:29

Pretty much entirely separate. There is a minor amount of cross over with tops. But I tend to wear dresses and tailored skirts for work and skinny jeans and leggings at the weekend, so there is no cross over on the bottom half.

LaurieFairyCake · 18/01/2014 09:30

Separate, I don't wear pyjamas to work Wink and I don't bother getting dressed at weekends.

MrsHughJarse · 18/01/2014 09:33

fairy - lol ... Thank you for my Saturday smile ! Completely separate here - tailored at work . V. scruffy Casual clothes that cope with DC x3 at home !

Meglet · 18/01/2014 09:35

No. I also have weekend bags, shoes and coats. Nail varnish comes off at weekends too.

rocket74 · 18/01/2014 09:37

I work in design so can wear jeans and converse etc to work. I make more effort if a meeting but still smart jeans are fine! So anything goes whatever the day which very happy about Grin

Chocotrekkie · 18/01/2014 09:38

I sometimes mix and match - I tend to dress in leggings and long top for work (smart top) and home (more casual tops) so they start separately but sometimes overlap.

Depends if I have done the washing or not.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 18/01/2014 09:41

No separation at all here, work in a very casual environment, jeans or leggings most of the time for both.

RubyLovesShopping · 18/01/2014 09:43

Yes completely separate. My work attire is very formal and my natural style is very casual skinnies ankle boots jumpers or slouchy t's in summer.

drspouse · 18/01/2014 09:44

Tops in particular I wear for both, and I occasionally wear dresses to church. I don't wear jeans to work (I could, but I just don't like to), and I mainly keep my work trousers and skirts for work.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 18/01/2014 09:44

Thinking about it though, I love this job. I hated my last one and kept separate clothes so I could shut it out when not there.

Meglet · 18/01/2014 10:58

I even voted against casual wear in the office, the thought of having a work / casual crossover didn't appeal to me.

Floisme · 18/01/2014 12:41

I used to keep them very separate: smarter clothes for work, jeans for weekends/days off but now they're all starting to morph together. This is partly because my workplace has a pretty relaxed dress code and partly because I'm trying to give up on jeans. (Just cannot be arsed with all that trying on any more - life is too short). So at the moment, a tube skirt, slouchy jumper and biker boots are my go-to for both work and play. In some ways it's good as I'm getting maximum wear out of them but I do kind of miss that feeling of getting up on a Saturday, thinking 'way-hey, weekend!' and reaching for different clothes.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 18/01/2014 14:11

I wear a lot of my skirts and tops for both, but then jackets are exclusively for work and jeans and jumpers exclusively for weekends.

Eg: a tube skirt, opaques, jumper, ankle boots and biker jacket = weekend, whilst a tube skirt, top, blazer, opaques and heels = work.

EeyoreIsh · 18/01/2014 14:18

They're mostly separate, I wear tailored dresses to work.

There are some items that crossover, such as cardigans and vest tops. I have a few dresses that I might wear to both work and normal life.

Things got a bit more blended before I went on maternity leave as I didn't have the funds to buy separate wardrobes.

I never wear jeans to work though, my colleagues do from time to time but if feels all wrong to me!

Oblomov · 18/01/2014 14:55

Same as OP. I buy a new spangly top. And wear it to work. Not good. I wonder how we get put of this rut OP?

CointreauVersial · 18/01/2014 15:08

Mostly separate. A few tops I have worn for both work and casual, but not many. Sometimes I wear an item for work a few times, then decide it's too casual, and it gets downgraded to weekend wear. Or I'll decide that a casual dress can be smartened up and will wear it to work.

Also, depending what I'm wearing, sometimes I'll come home from work and change into jeans but keep the top half the same (doesn't always work, of course).

And Friday is casual day at the office, so I wear weekend clothes.

lurkingaround · 18/01/2014 16:48

I keep work and weekend mostly separate. Work isn't formal, smartish is fine. I wear a lot of skirts to work. Some stuff I wouldn't wear at the w'end, I cross over only with a handful of items. I like it different for my head too, that weekend feeling, iykwim.

MoreCrackThanHarlem · 18/01/2014 17:00

I keep mine seperate.
I have weekend stuff- mainly skinnies, jumpers/cardies, biker boots.
Work wear- tailored trousers, shirts, dresses.

Sometimes I buy a nice going out outfit which becomes work wear after a couple of outings.

cheminotte · 18/01/2014 17:32

Pretty similar to many pps. Suits at work with blouses, shirts or nice top. Some of the same tops I will wear at weekends too. A couple of smart skirts I wear for both. Jeans are home only as are jumpers. Leggings are for exercise only.

YoullNeedATray · 18/01/2014 17:38

Separate.

I'm a primary teacher so workwear is plain jersey dresses or plain trousers & plain jumpers. All easy to wash, non-iron, smart and not a financial disaster if gets whiteboard pen or glue on it!

Weekends are comfy jeans and fleeces, or cotton trousers and tee shirts in summer.

Going out (very rare!) means one of a small number of smart frocks or tops.

trinity0097 · 18/01/2014 20:22

Dresses just for work, most skirts just for work, a few tops just work, and all jumpers work and casual. Black trousers just work and jeans just home unless a mufti day!

trinity0097 · 18/01/2014 20:23

Oh and currently sitting watching the telly in my work fleece and my only coat that fits me is emblazoned with my school logo which I got free from work.

Matsikula · 18/01/2014 20:35

More cross-over than there used to be. I work in a very small office now, and if I don't have an external meeting I'd feel a bit silly fully suited and booted. But I will always at least wear a smart shirt with a collar or a tailored jacket, and definitely not jeans, unless it is actually a dress down day. I wear trainers a lot at the weekend and I don't wear them to the office, even on a dress down day, unless I am feeling ill or am getting on a plane. I also have a horror of open toed shoes in the office.
