Why can't I wave my hair with GHDs?

Is there some mythical secret?
Friends have demonstrated!
I've watched endless YouTube videos showing me how easy it is!
All I end up with is a kink at the top and the rest of it straight Hmm

Any tips that work??
Or videos that I haven't seen??

Are you turning the ghd constantly? Start at top and turn turn turn until the hair comes out at the bottom. Then twirl it with your finger to keep the shape.

No I wasn't turning constantly

I'll have another go today

Have you tried it yet?

Twist sections of your hair and go down them with the ghds, rather than twisting the ghds.

Start underneath, small sections, and work up the head.

I have never been label to do anything other than straighten with my ghds either, despite many attempts.

Have you ever tried a Reminton Pearl curing wand? So easy to use and work really really well.

Able, not label Hmm

My hairdresser showed me how to do this after she'd done a GHD training course:

Take a section of hair, run straighteners through normally up to where you want the curl to start. Then twist them through 180° with the hair still between the plates, hold the lock of hair by the ends, slightly taut (now folded back towards the root) and continue to run the straighteners through so the hair turns a corner as it passes between the plates.

IYSWIM Hmm

They don't stay in like curls made by a pro with hairdryer and brush though, unless you use a fog of hairspray.

I have curly hair which straightens easily (fine but lots of it).
I often blow dry then fix into a sleek finish with ghd's.

I thought that my own hair, being prone to kinking up by nature, would wave really well with ghd's..........but oh god no!

The result looks great, at first, but then a few mins later the waves fall out and frizz up all dry and parched - quite unlike when I simply straighten it.

For natural waves I allow my hair to air dry in a tight sleek ponytail at nape of my neck.
At least this results in soft waves instead of parchment.

Still, it's a tricky thing to achieve waves from naturally curly hair, even though you's think it should be a doddle. My hair straightens so much easier and nicer than it waves. I hate this because I am tired of flat straight hair, but cannot get along with the fluffy curls.

I can't do it either. I've tried so many times but only end up with nice angled hair.

I did manage to do a few decent ones this morning but as you say they dropped and now it looks so frizzy I've had to put it up Hmm

If I keep turning it too much then they just get stuck and I can't move the irons at all.
