Damn you, bra intervention enablers <shakes fist>

After decades years of spending next to no money on my norkage, wearing bras until they were a. useless as far as the scaffolding aspect of their purpose in life goes b. useless as far as their purpose as enticing wrapping goes c. grey, whatever colour they started out as, I now seem to own a drawer full of expensivish, colourful, supportive bras in the correct size (34G rather than 36DD) AND matching knickers Shock!

That first neutral coloured Panache bought at Bravissimo after one of the bra intervention threads here, was my entry drug.
Being encouraged to have a look around Brastop furthered my dependency.
I fear I have lost all control over my bra buying behaviour - I now own a Rigby and Peller model Blush.

I feel much better, however my credit card is suffering... damn you, all I am eternally grateful AngryWink
Thanks

OK, you've spent decades spending an average of 3 farthings a year on bras, when you probably should have been spending £50pa. Assuming you're 40 (no basis for that assumption whatsoever), you should have spent £1250 on bras over the last 25 years.

So, until you've spent £1250 on bras, you've actually underspent on underwear. HTH.

PacificDogwood · 17/01/2014 22:17

Ooooh, I am so totally underspent Grin.
You are a genius accountant, MsVestibule.

And I am 47, so that would be.... even more (cba to do the maths).

Do I feel guilty? Not a jot Grin

StatisticallyChallenged · 17/01/2014 22:53

I feel MsVs figures may be slightly low - they're like how much I tell my husband things cost rather than how much they do ;)

Have you met Ewa Michalak yet?

SorrelForbes · 18/01/2014 07:56

Tried any Prima Donna or Fauve around £50-80 apiece

PacificDogwood · 18/01/2014 08:08

Fauve seems to be quite well represented in my drawer Blush.
Primadonna I've not seen any discounts thing I've likes yet...
Dare I google Ewa Michalak??

Your love of underwear will spread too-just ordered a steel boned underbust corset

StatisticallyChallenged · 18/01/2014 08:10

Ewa is a fabulous polish brand which makes really comfortable and amazingly uplifting bras. Reasonable-prices work out slightly less than Freya I think

PacificDogwood · 18/01/2014 08:21

But I don't need any bras at the moment....
My latest Fauve is still al stiff and new, loverly midnight blue with a bit of embroidery on it

Statistically, that's what I am worried about: that after decades of less than supportive smalls I will slowly descend into more and more structured scaffolding until I've arrived at needing a lady in waiting to lace my corset Shock.

One day soon I will count my bras. I definitely didn't need most of them!

InMySpareTime · 18/01/2014 08:32

Made In Preston do bras in a 26" back. I will spend a lot there (got my first one in the post yesterday but it wasn't a big enough cup size Grin)
For the first time in ages I had a bra that fit in the band though, and they're UK made (I've been too unsure of my cup size to brave ordering EM yet).

christinarossetti · 18/01/2014 08:36

T'was dismal news on Oxford St during the sales for those of us who wear 28d or thereabouts. I usually pick up Freya bras reduced to,less than a tenner. Both Debenhams and HoF no,longer stock 28 backs as they always end up in the sale...

MsVestibule · 18/01/2014 08:47

A steel boned underbust corset??? Aren't they really difficult to do up without a maid? Also, although very pretty, they look a bit bulky - are they?

Cinnamoncookie · 18/01/2014 08:54

Proper corsets with lacing up the back are relatively ready to fasten by yourself, provided you're not looking for a Scarlett O'Hara level of waist shrinkage. Axfords have a guide on their website. A useful tip is to hook the two loops of the laces over the two door handles of an open door (stand in front of the thin side of the door) and then slowly walk away.

Cinnamoncookie · 18/01/2014 08:55

Ready ? *easy !!

InMySpareTime · 18/01/2014 08:56

I have a steel boned corset that zips up, and one with metal eyelets. The laces are long, you can adjust them yourself once it's on.

StatisticallyChallenged · 18/01/2014 09:05

Yup the laces are so long and at your waist that youcan do it yyourself. Found one that's supposed to be very good for big difference between hips and waist

MsVestibule · 18/01/2014 09:09

Hmm, I will have to investigate further. I normally wear Spanx under slim fitting clothes, which works pretty well, but the corsets do look much nicer.

StatisticallyChallenged · 18/01/2014 09:12

For me it's not really a spanx replacement as I have lumpy hips and thighs. Will look fab under fifties type dresses though and I think I'd have the balls to wear it as outerwear

And for other purposes...mr stat likes corsets!

PacificDogwood · 18/01/2014 09:18

Crap, now I've looked at Axfords...

The bloomers have cheered me up, though Grin

I do love a nice corset, so helpful for the posture and supportive.

Have recently spent too much on matching undies, too, OP. Curses!
