Okay, where would you like to start? What is the most important thing to you, to feel and look better?

Maverick66 · 17/01/2014 21:04

I feel just like you milky man. I have dieted on and off for 30 years. I have joined every slimming club known to man. I simply cannot face anymore patronising weight loss leaders telling me to stick with it. However without a weight loss club I cannot seem to motivate myself. I know it's simple maths eat less - move more! But I just can't get it into my head!

I have always hated how I look (plain face and fat) but figured I couldn't do much about the face so it was a waste of time working on losing weight.

Well ..... I now have a crush on a man who I am invisible too and have lost 5 pounds. And I have been wearing dresses and make up! Probably not the best motivation but I am feeling better for making a little effort.

Pamper yourself? Paint your nails instead of eating biscuits? (Or while eating biscuits :o)

Wear pretty things whilst eating the biscuits?

Look at yourself in the mirror and remind yourself that whilst there will always be someone prettier, there will always be someone uglier, and you should be thankful for that? It's true. :)

Most women don't have a "perfect" body or face for that matter. What makes the difference is that some care about themselves and that results in an inner confidence and spark etc.
I can't motivate you to loose weight but I can tell you how brilliant it is to enjoy clothes and fashion. It doesn't need to be expensive stuff either. Just spend time pampering yourself, do your hair, put a bit of make up like Fluffy and you'll start feeling a little better. It will snow ball it really will.
Hope that helps Smile

I have been feeling like this too, but since Christmas I've been wearing make up (tinted moisturiser and mascara), spray of perfume and have been making an effort with my hair. I can do my hair and face in about 20 mins in the morning but I do have to drag myself out of bed a bit earlier. It's amazing how quickly you get the hang of it and you will start to feel betterSmile

Have an hour or two in the bathroom scrubbing, hair-masking, face-packing, foot-filing, defuzzing and nail-filing plus some after bath/shower moisturiser slathering.

Include a glass of something nice and a bag of grapes or something else that float your boat and is healthy-ish then emerge phoenix-like and swear to yourself that yu will make an effort from now on.

I intend to do that this afternoon :)

Look on Pinterest for outfit inspiration.

The following makes me feel put together whilst eating biscuits-
Eyebrows regularly waxed and shaped
Clean short nails with clear polish
Outfits put together with some thought-which has turned into something of my uniform now
Quick beauty routine- oil cleanse each night, water wash in the morning then face serum, moisturiser. Wash, conditional, dry hair. Minimal make up-mascara, concealer, cheek stain, lip gloss/balm. Takes 5 minutes to do make up or less!
Good bag, sunglasses, accessories.
Painted toenails
Shaved armpits
Ironed clothes

I am in exactly the same position as you op. I need to lose weight as I only have one outfit that fits, no money and a bad back.
I have been dieting on and off for the last 30 plus years and just can't face it again. The thought of one of those cheery women standing there telling me to think positively, makes me want to take residence in the biscuit tin. Anyway, I can't afford them.

I have never been this big before and I'm so fed up with myself. I've stopped wearing make up and slob around the house in jeans and an old cardi. Attractive eh?

Last week I was told that I need back surgery, but I am more likely to have a good outcome if I lose weight. I can't walk or do exercise so I have to restrict my food in some way.

I decided to eat normally, but smaller portions. No snacks except fruit. It doesn't feel like a diet as I eat the same as everyone else and can have occasional treats if want. I'm actually doing this with the dietician at the hospital. She says it is absolutely the best way forward and is sustainable. I Have been told that I must go out for birthday meals/ occasional cake and coffee etc as I will get bored otherwise.
I have followed this since January 1st and lost 5.5lb in first two weeks. That is with absolutely zero exercise. In fact I don't do much at all due to back.
I'm not back into any other clothes yet but I feel so much more positive about myself. I try to put on make up, wash my hair etc even if I'm only staying in all day.
Try it for one day. If its ok, try it the next day as well. It's very easy. You can gradually reduce your portion sizes if its too much in one go.

Good luck.

Do you get enough sleep? I only ask because my new year's resolution was to go to bed earlier to see if I could get out of the permanently cycle of knackeredness. It is working so well! I am now asleep by 10.30 most nights, and get up at 6.30 (sometimes with a wake up by a small person in between, but usually only one). I feel so much better, and so much more motivated to take care of myself / less inclined to snack / generally healthier and able to be arsed. My mood has improved drastically, and lots of other things, like actually wanting to exercise, are starting to fall into place.
