Negative hairdressers experience - am I being silly?

I honestly don't know if I'm overreacting and being silly, but I had my hair cut last night and I'm feeling pretty fed up.

New city and went with a friend's recommendation after work (well I'm doing my PGCE).

Argh this will teach me for de-lurking and trying to post on phone!

Appointment was at 6pm and I walked out the door at 6.24pm. So came to literally £2 a minute and I just dont feel I got that much value.

my hair was basically a grown out bob, and as my hair is quite thick it had become quite heavy around my neck. So I asked to lose some of the length, and also to take the weight off the bottom.

She took some length off then blow dried the hair, put some layers in and shaped a bit around the front.

I never had a chance to ask for a bit more off as she got the hairdryer out so quickly. I don't think it's shaped properly around my face, and she didn't ask how I wanted my fringe - just trimmed it without checking length, until I piped up and asked for it to be below my eyebrows.

Anyway between walking in, talking to her, having my hair washed and paying - I can't have been in the chair for more than 12 minutes! Never have I had such a rushed cut with no real opportunity to say If I like it.

I feel like calling tomorrow and complaining. But ideally all I want is a bit more off the length and better shaping. Or at least to let them know I felt the appointment was a disappointment.

But am I being ridiculous? I guess there's nothing that can really be done.

Sorry it's so long. I don't mind paying £50 for a good cut, and she was a senior stylist, but I don't like poor customs service just because it's the end of the day.

Just don't go back there. I had a dreadful hair appointment at a salon that looked nice. I felt violated however by the whole experience!

The coffee was awful, some sort of wierd brew your own device that leaked and tasted nasty, with powdered milk/creamer. I had my hair coloured, and the hairdresser smeared Vaseline or similar around my hairline, which then dripped slowly down my face as the colour sat there doing its thing.

The cut was okay but styling no better than I could have done myself. I left in a hurry and never went there again. Charles Worthington salon in Covent Garden for me after that and worth every penny! And not actually that much more expensive than the salon from hell.

you're not being silly at all...if you are not happy with it go back and let them put it right

plentyofsoap · 17/01/2014 03:38

Its awful when that happens, you are not being silly
at all. Any online review available?

Snowdown · 17/01/2014 06:22

I don't think you are being silly - go back and get your hair cut the way you want it and then don't return...finding a good hairdresser is as much about personality as it is about the cut.

DolomitesDonkey · 17/01/2014 06:44

I had a hairdresser dilemma last week and asked the hairdressers on s&b they said to go back.

IDugUpADiamond · 17/01/2014 06:54

I detest going to the hairdressers and I have yet got to find one that actually knows how to do a decent haircut. Just don't go back.

I had exactly the same experience last weekend!! :( taught me never to book an appointment at 5pm on a Saturday again. I'm totally pissed off, I asked for her to cut my fringe shorter when she had dried my hair (very badly - she didn't even finish it with straighteners or any product) and was told it would look stupid (I.e - sorry I can't be arsed...) and to come back on Monday if I still I wanted it done after thinking about it for the weekend. I'm loathe to go back to the same place but don't want to spend anymore money elsewhere

ElizabethBathory · 17/01/2014 11:07

You're not overreacting, that sounds shit. I've had a similar experience at a supposedly good, trendy city salon. I complained, made them sort it out and never went back. They also undercharged me by £7 and texted me later to ask me to come in and pay the rest. HAHAHAHA. I did not. If you really want revenge write a bad review of them somewhere!

polyhymnia · 17/01/2014 11:35

Definitely not over reacting. You would be well within your rights to call and complain and ask for it to be put right.

But, if I was you, I wouldn't want to go back there - wouldn't trust them.

If you start a new thread with the name of the city in the title asking for good hairdresser recommendations in your price range you should get some very good suggestions.

HaveAGoodDay · 17/01/2014 21:39

No, you're not being silly at all.

You're not happy with the cut so go back & explain. They should re-do it for you free of charge & make sure the stylist ( you could ask for a different stylist) knows exactly what you want, pipe up & tell her, don't let her talk over you. If you feel uncomfortable whilst you are there, don't worry, you don't have to go back after that, but at least you will have the haircut you want & not have to pay out again for it.
