eyebrows a disaster - HELP

meerkate · 16/01/2014 20:54

I went into a strange over-plucking frenzy 3 or 4 years ago and - of course - am now in possession of two strange, bedraggled, poor excuses for eyebrows which I have to laboriously fill in every morning with pencil. Sigh. Anyway - who can tell me about semi-permanent eyebrow tattooing? I really don't know if I am brave enough but would appreciate anyone's advice. I am 43, wear make-up every day but favour the natural look and am pretty low-maintenance generally - I would be absolutely horrified to end up with two dreadful black slugs as sported by so many of today's 'yoof' (especially as I am fair)!

Oooh I'm the same as you (had been seriosuly considering hd brows but was pit off by the fact that after the first week or so the dye on your skin fades so only the hair is left but dyed and i dont have enough hair in the first place iyswim) and last time I was at the hairdresser she recommended this;

here

It's utterly amazing, honestly. I used to use no7 blonde eyebrow pencil then bought a replacement and they must have changed it as its rubbish now but this is so so good. You need to apply it with an angled brush like this;

here

But it's so fab it makes my eyebrows look thick and gorgeous and full and is so natural. And they're still blonde! I've found with other types my brows end up looking too dark but with this they stay blonde just a thick, full blonde iyswim.

Doobiedoobedoobie · 16/01/2014 21:12

Sorry for typos... Was typing too fast in my excitement Blush

Doobiedoobedoobie · 16/01/2014 21:14

Plus to add, it does look very pale (almost foundation colour) but is easily dark enough. I actually made the mistake of ordering the brown one initially and thought I'd just apply less but it looked too unnatural so I bought the blonde which is miles better.

cerealqueen · 16/01/2014 21:15

Why don't you try rapidlash? i think it works on brows too.

I would also get them tinted, you can do it yourself - that alone will make them look thicker.

meerkate · 16/01/2014 21:57

Ooh thanks - I already have the benefit brows kit with angled brush but for some reason have lazily gone back to a pencil in recent weeks - no doubt I will be ordering the Ilah one within the next 24hours though, always a sucker for a new recommendation Smile The irony is, I had lusciously thick eyebrows before - what was I doing ?!

Browhaus do something called Brow Resurrection.

TheCraicDealer · 16/01/2014 22:25

I'm naturally fair and sparse of brow (despite having dark brown hair...), six months ago I threw the head up and got them tattooed. I spent five minutes every morning using Browzings to draw them on, only to realise they'd disappeared by 4pm. Life is too fucking short for that shit. Best £300 I've ever spent, they look incredibly natural. I touch them up every morning but it's not the same laborious task it was.

I also liked my eyebrow lady as she refuses to tattoo the scouse brow on customers as it's just the current fashion and putting that on someone's face forever is unethical.

Do it, do it, do it, do it.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 17/01/2014 00:27

Where did you get them done Craic?

TheCraicDealer · 17/01/2014 09:02

A place in Belfast called Lulu's Brow Lounge. The woman has decorated it like Lily Savage's dressing room. I got her name off my hairdresser when I was moaning about my fair brows one day- with things like this on your face I think you're best going on personal recommendation, and beauticians and hairdressers are often a good place to start.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 17/01/2014 09:06

Thanks, yes, you're right about the recommendations, might start with my haidresser, I can't think of anyone I know who might have had it done. Normally when I want a local recommendation I put a shout out on FB but I feel too shy about this. Mine were always a bit gappy, then I got alopecia, my head hair came back but brows have never been the same and they are dark, so it shows.

meerkate · 18/01/2014 14:17

craic & wkwttg - i am seeing the local place who does it in town on wednesday Smile i have made an appointment before but cancelled...i'll see how it feels and what the woman is like - i will at least be brave enough to attend this 'preliminary chat' appointment this time! i will report back Smile

Well done, and yes do report back Smile.

TheCraicDealer · 18/01/2014 22:42

Oooh! Well if she's any good she'll shape them, talk to you about ink colours and draw them on to show you how they'd look. And if you can, have a look at pictures of clients they've done. Report back!

CockBollocks · 18/01/2014 23:25

I'm a little wary of tattooing, eyebrow shapes seem to change with fashion and I wonder if you would be left with something you don't want in ten years. When I was 20 I had thin curved eyebrows and now everyone likes a natural arch!

I keep meaning to put a long post on here about hd brows. I've been having it done now for 18 months. The whole process is very different to the thick dark eyebrows people seem to think it gives you.

Every app my beautician would tint all the available hair. She then drew lines where my eyebrows should ideally be if they were not over plucked, in relation to my face shape. She would then wax, thread and pluck anything left. then she filled in the remaining gaps with a pencil, or if the gaps were too large as far as she could, showing me where to do it.

It's not instant and has taken this long but I now have lovely even natural looking eyebrows that hardly need pencilling at all.

I would really recommend hd brows and think people generally have the wrong impression of what it's about!

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 18/01/2014 23:41

While I have always associated HD with the Scouse Brow look, so never looked into it, I just don't think there's enough of mine left, literally only about 10 hairs in one, maybe 20 in the other and they are very dark, so the gaps are massive. I don't think they will ever grow back now either.

meerkate · 20/01/2014 09:05

HD brows? Will google...I suspect am in the same over-sparse boat as wkwttg but will do some research!

OP posts:
MuffinTumMum · 20/01/2014 09:16

I have a friend who used a small company called Browtec. Fab, natural results. She is late 50's and wasn't interested in scouse brows either! HthGrin

CockBollocks · 20/01/2014 10:46

hd

The beautician I go to has some good before and after pics, some have very sparse brows!!

Also some f the growth serums are meant to be good.

meerkate · 22/01/2014 14:06

Well girls, I had my appointment and was really impressed - lovely woman, very professional, years of experience, not at all into scouse brows; made me feel at ease and in good hands. I asked her about HD but sadly, as suspected, she felt I was in the Too Sparse category for those! So I am probably going to go for it Smile

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 22/01/2014 22:00

That sounds great Meerkate - good luck! Do report back if you go for it.

I looked at the HD Brows website, the nearest person listed to me is about 15 miles away and not in a town I ever go to really, so for something that you presumably have to do every few weeks that's a non starter. As well as the over sparseness. Back to looking at the tattooing ones for me I think.

RiojaHaze · 23/01/2014 20:52

I've just had mine done today.

They look brilliant, so natural that DP didn't even notice they'd been done. I have to go back in 4 weeks for a retouch to complete them but at the moment I love them!

meerkate · 25/01/2014 21:34

Ooh Rioja - that's exactly what I am hoping for - that nobody will even notice - except me, that is Grin
I am booked in for 5 Feb Smile
Naturally kids and DH have been fully involved and seem to think that I am going to a dodgy tattoo salon of the sort that liberally pepper our town Grin

OP posts:
RiojaHaze · 25/01/2014 21:46

I'm so in love with them! I woke up with fully intact eyebrows for the first time in god knows how long yesterday.

DP does keep saying I could've got them in a tattoo parlour for £45!

Good luck Grin
