My hair is like a light gingery colour. It has been coloured before. I'd like to lighten it gradually to a more strawberry blondish colour, but i don't want to be blonde, iukwim?

Anyway, it's taken some abuse, so condition is important to me, however, i was thinking, if i was to mix some of this

www.superdrug.com/bblonde/jerome-russell-b-blonde-cream-peroxide-40-vol-12-lightner/invt/42293&bklist=

with a little bit of shampoo or conditioner and leave it on the lengths of my hair for 20 mins or so every 2nd or 3rd wash, would it lighten my hair colour a little eventually?

That doesn't sound like a great idea tbh. Is there a modern version of Sun In or something you can use?

Speaking as someone who has just spent £150 getting their, previously beautiful, hair fixed after titting about with bleach at home.......

Don't do it.

Flangeofmingetown · 16/01/2014 13:45

I wouldn't if it is already in poor shape. It will probably turn the colour of Easter chicks if you just use that. You would have to use a toner afterwards and it's likely to be really porous after bleaching so the colour will fade quickly and look brassy.

I suggest you go to a hairdressers and have them run some highlights around your face in a natural tone.

noooooooooooooooooo......always see a hairdresser when dying your hair.

HaveAGoodDay · 16/01/2014 16:41

Ha ha, ok I guess it's a bad idea! Like I said condition is my top priority at the moment!

RayPurchase - I looked at Sun In on Boots website & the reviews scared me off, I'm pretty sure it wouldn't have any lightening effect on my hair & I would probably be one of the unfortunate ones where my hair would frazzle & snap off :'(

I shall just embrace the ginge look for a while longer!

Highlights are your best bet. Pricey, admittedly.

Mumraathenoisylion · 16/01/2014 17:38

You could go to a local hair and beauty college which will be much cheaper, or call some hairdressers to see if they need models for highlights?

EverSoFarAway · 16/01/2014 17:49

I've just stripped my hair from a redish dye, I'm a very gingery colour, can't do much with it so am having highlights put through it to lighten and distract. It's less damaging than having a full head colour, and they don't have to be bleach blonde if you don't want it to be blonde blonde.

Anyone else thinking about bleaching at home. ..don't!!! I also had a traumatic hair experience. .thought id be a smart ass and got all my bleaching kit, mixing bowl, toners etc, my friend to help apply it (and pour the wine!) Well the first lot of bleach was applied all over, left on for 40 mins and came out a gingery colour. .so stupidly I thought id put more on, this time wrapped it up in clingfilm but 10 mins into it my head felt on fire..then I could almost hear it frying!! Shit. So we (tipsily) ran to bathroom and frantically washed off the bleach, unfortunately with most of my hair coming with it..my shoulder length hair was no reduced to clumps and tufts on my (very red and sore) scalp. Was so bad had to shave off and buy a bloody wig!! So please ladies never bleach at home :-)
