Top pieces of advice from fashionable women

There are some women you see who just look fabulous no matter what they get in. And sometimes it is hard to tell if they are just amazingly fashionable or if they just look good in anything. And then there are the women who look great if they nail it right or terrible if they get into the wrong thing. It is something we saw a lot of at the Golden Globes this year and will always see at awards shows. The women who always look good, however, are usually just fashionable women. Here’s a few pieces of advice from them on how to always look great.

Start with black

The first thing to base your closet off of is black, according to CNN. You can never go wrong with black, a slimming color that also looks great on any occasion. Fashionable women always base their entire closets with black by having a lot of black and other dark colors for use on a regular basis. By starting with black, you can never go wrong. And the best part is that you can wear black again and again without people realizing it is the same dress that you wore last week, especially if you do a lot of accessorizing.

Pick more neutrals

Black isn’t the only color people forget about. Neutrals, such as gray, are going to give you more depth to the outfit. don’t just do all black, or you’ll look fairly boring or depressed. If you put in grays, navys, and other neutral or dark colors, it will give your outfit much more life.

Strong colors a must

The next thing to keep in mind is that you need to use strong colors once in a while They are there to accentuate the outfit. Wearing a whole dress that is pink might work for a specific occasion, but it is also a big risk. You’re better off with the neutral colors and a bright pink necklace and shoes to accentuate the outfit. It looks sleek and will never let you go wrong.

Stay comfortable

The next thing you’ll need to work on is your comfort level. Though you may not always look like a fashionista doing it, you can still be fashionable in comfortable clothing. If you’re going to a pajama party, try some Jumpin jammerz footy pajamas or a styled tank and shorts. Either way, you’ll be
comfortable, and the footy pajamas will definitely label you as “cool” and “down to earth.” Whatever you do decide to wear, follow these color guides from the fashionable women experts, and you’ll do really well.

Wear black, neutrals, colours and pyjamas - sounds fairly easy to be fashionable!

Stokey · 16/01/2014 09:16

Think if you're wearing mostly black/grey, a strong lipstick can really smarten up your look, red especially.

Sleepwhenidie · 16/01/2014 09:24

Black is very chic I agree, but I think particularly as you get older- say 40 plus, you need full make up for it not to have a draining effect next to your face (there are a few exceptions to this, eg if you have 'snow white' type colouring ) but for most of us, basing our wardrobe around navy/grey/earthy tones (according to what best suits your colouring) is much easier and flattering. Then you can accentuate with brighter colours/prints.

God, that sounds boring. Give me the pink dress any day!

Agree that decent strong lipstick can make a massive difference though - makes it look like the rest of your outfit happened on purpose, iykwim Grin

2madboys · 16/01/2014 09:27

Don't agree at all - black doesn't suit everyone so following that advice you most certainly can go wrong. Hmm

seasalt · 16/01/2014 09:29

Footy pyjamas??

MarshaBrady · 16/01/2014 09:30

Too much black can be drab, although still love the odd LBD.

I can't do bright lipstick at all, but I am partial to a plain bright / citrus t or jumper.

flowery · 16/01/2014 09:31

I look terrible in black, and I think anyone who thinks basing your "closet" on black is a way for everyone to "always look great" is not someone whose advice I'd pay much attention to...

BriarRainbowshimmer · 16/01/2014 09:32

If you’re going to a pajama party, try some Jumpin jammerz footy pajamas

Is this a joke article?

MarshaBrady · 16/01/2014 09:33

Is it a long-winded pj ad?

elQuintoConyo · 16/01/2014 09:34

Black makes me look like Edgar Allen Poe. A dead Edgar Allen Poe.
Grey saps the colour from my skin.
My gran wears navy.

I wear:
Blue jeans wirh black boots (see other thread, I'm shocking!)
Bubblegum pink winter coat with A-symetrical buttons.
Leopard-print winkle-picker ankle boots with purple kitten heel (Barcelona, darling).
Bright purple chunky-knit thigh-length jumper, made by my mum.
Red tights with anything.
No hats.

I'll keep in mind the pyjama advice - that's priceless!

Onesleeptillwembley · 16/01/2014 09:40

What a load of shite. The same person will be writing a 'beach body in 2 weeks' next, with an unsubtle advert for overpriced twattytwatty berries to help you slim next week.

Stokey · 16/01/2014 09:53

Love the sound of the leopard-print boots with purple heel elQunito

Gotta love a bit of Barca style

FrugalFashionista · 16/01/2014 11:24

Anyone who takes fashion advice from CNN should have her head examined Grin

Now this here is an essay on style! Loving the natural face, ombre hair and the sharp and clean proportions!

elQuintoConyo · 16/01/2014 11:25

Stokey I'll try and upload a picture, they're amazing! And from an el cheapo chain store aimed at teenagers, called Blanco Smile they have an online store. My boots are 8-9 years old though! Hardly a fashion follower Hmm

Catypillar · 16/01/2014 12:31

Pink dress = big risk

Living life on the edge indeed...

flowery · 16/01/2014 13:01
Grin

Indeed. If I stepped out in a pink dress, there would be a risk I might look nice. If I stepped out in a black dress, there would be a very real risk of people being very concerned about my health...!
