sore inner thighs rubbing am I the only one

My inner thighs get really sore in this hot sticky weather, obviously only when I'm wearing a skirt.I know I need to loose weight but at a size 16/18 I am not that abnormal.
So what do other people do to avoid this ,or am I the only one with podgy thighs squeeking together?

ouch! baby powder?

ginmummy · 28/07/2006 00:04

Evans do comfort shorts that are kinda like tights but only go down to your knees and they protect your thighs a bit from chafting. Not very sexy, but then again the red rash and soreness isn't exactly a turn on either.

fattiemumma · 28/07/2006 00:19

yeap i know that feeling all too well Ggirl.

i just cut the legs off a pair of tights so that they stop them rubbing...less obvious than shorts.

My mum says to use baby powder too but i always worry that when i get sweaty it may become clumpy and i worry that if i ever got hit by a car the Dr would be a littl worried by the white gunky sytuff on my thighs

burstingbug · 28/07/2006 00:20

Your not the only one, I suffer this alot in warm and hot weather. Doesn't matter if I wear trousers or skirts, it still happens. It's really not helping that I'm even hotter at the moment as I'm 38 wks preg!

MrsSpoon · 28/07/2006 00:24

I used to get this when I was a big 14/small 16. It was sore. TBH it was one of the biggest wakeup calls for me as I thought this only happened to really huge people. The only solution IMO longterm is weightloss and exercise to shape the thighs. I am now a 12 and it doesn't happen anymore.

Skribble · 28/07/2006 01:43

I stick to trousers to stop sticking .

NotQuiteCockney · 28/07/2006 07:06

I keep meaning to try baby powder. I've gone from an 18 to a 14 (ish) but this hasn't really fixed itself. Well, it's fine as long as I wear shorts etc, but I haven't bought a new wardrobe, and the old ones don't fit as well.

I honestly don't think losing weight will fix it for me, not without me becoming scary-looking. I think my thighs don't rub as much as they used to, but a good part of what's rubbing now is my inner thigh muscles.

mumandlovingit · 28/07/2006 07:22

dont know what to advise to stop it but i know drapolene cream (used for lots of reasons incl nappy rash) is excellent to stop it hurting so much and take the redness out.my dp has the same problem and he aplies this each night before bed to take some of the soreness out.
hope someone else might be able to recommend a preventative.
boots/other chemists sell it by the way, more expensive than sudocrem but alot better i think.

brimfull · 28/07/2006 15:34

thanks everyone,Probably no hope for me even though my legs are quite muscley, well compared to my tummy that is.
I'll look into the comfort shorts from evans ,although they sound a bit sweaty.

I use Vaseline (lots of it) for running, but don't think I would use it for "normal".

Been meaning to try talcum powder after reading about it somewhere else.

prettybird · 28/07/2006 15:46

PS I'm a 12/14.

brimfull · 28/07/2006 15:58

I think some peoples leg are shaped closer together at the top as opposed to some people with bandy legs you could drive a truck through.

I've had to start wearing shorts or trousers all the time. I'm a 12/14. My thighs can get bloody sore though and I'm not the most fetching in shorts!!!

octavia · 28/07/2006 20:11

you have to be really careful with the application but deodrant sprayed on each inner thigh after you have applied talc to the area first works. You have to keep your legs apart until the deodrant dries though or you will stick!its only a minute though.Losing weight doesn't help unfortunatly as I've lost 7 stone and they still rub

NannyStar · 29/07/2006 08:53

Wow very well done on the weight loss Octavia!!! How proud must you be of yourself? That is fab!!!

octavia · 29/07/2006 13:22

thank you Nannystar

flutterbee · 29/07/2006 13:33

Octavia how did you do it and special diet, or was it just less food more excersize.

MrsSpoon · 29/07/2006 23:38

That's scurpered that theory then.

I have not got bandy legs , hurrrump, flounce ...

SpaceCadet · 29/07/2006 23:40

i get this, so started slimming.

FlameSparrow · 29/07/2006 23:48

I have gone from a 12-14 to a 10-12, and its only at this size that I have stopped the rubbing

Before that I just went with talc (never been all that bothered with the "what if I was in an accident")

Hattie05 · 30/07/2006 01:15

Strangely enough, i don't get this problem in skirts, i get this with some trousers that have a rough seam on the inside!

cosmic101 · 30/07/2006 01:36

i use sudacrem or conatrane always works for me!

accessorizequeen · 30/07/2006 20:57

Have had problem for years & avoid skirts & dresses like the plague because of it. Am sz 16/18 too ggirl & agree it's not that abnormal but had problem when size 14 too. I use baby powder, take one of those baby talc containers in my handbag when it's hot. Makes me feel like a freak & never wanted to admit it when people ask why don't I try that nice skirt on?
