It always used to be! I have long black suede boots I wear with black jeans and trousers but am stuck as to what I should be wearing with dark blue jeans. Currently ballet flats which is freezing and daft in winter so I really need some new boots. I wear skinny jeans and am 28. What do you wear with blue jeans?

Wear black boots! As burnishedsilver says, denim is neutral, surely.

Chivetalking · 15/01/2014 19:50

Have never heard of this rule.

I wear what I like and let the haterz hate.

Rubybrazilianwax · 15/01/2014 20:24

I think in days gone by black always looked harsh with stonewashed type jeans, (when they were in) now with darker denim you can definitely get away with black. I think also because you see a lot of cobalt blue and navy with black, its a colour combo that looks ok

ChishandFips33 · 15/01/2014 21:08

When I wear blue jeans, I base my footwear decisions on the top that I'm wearing

Ditto; anything brown, green, earthy then I wear brown footwear.
Black and other colours then it's black footwear; but I pretty much only wear indigo/dark skinnies
My lighter ones, when they make it out of the wardrobe, I wear brown with

I hate black boots with blue jeans-it can look very mumsy! Brown all the way!

Cocolepew · 15/01/2014 21:23

Any colour goes. I have black Fly Mes boots and they look good. I also have the same boots in Teal. Brown leather Converse, brown and Navy converse, black Blondie Converse and blue, white, red, leopard print, Converse. They all get worn with jeans.

CrispyCrochet · 15/01/2014 21:24

Errr I'm 28 & have been wearing my fabulous new black boots with dark blue jeans everyday & prior to that all manner of black shoes. Never knew/thought this was a nono so IMO - it isn't. Grin

dexter73 · 15/01/2014 21:28

Kate Moss always wears black boots with jeans so it must be good!

Toastandstrawberryjam · 15/01/2014 23:33

So what about with black jeans? I just bought a new pair and they look odd with black boots. Would tan knee high boots go better? If I'm wearing it with a black jumper and camel coat.

MissScatterbrain · 16/01/2014 09:09

If I wear tan boots with black jeans, my legs look short - black boots only here. Do you have black ankle or biker boots?

MarshaBrady · 16/01/2014 09:15

I was going to say I prefer light ankle boots with indigo and darker with grey skinnies.

But forgot I have black suede wedges which I wear with indigo. It looks fine.

elQuintoConyo · 16/01/2014 09:19

I wear black boots with blue jeans.
I look mumsy.
I am a mum.
I also have a really frickin small budget so can't go buying expensive boots in all colours.

Judge away.

MrsCampbellBlack · 18/01/2014 18:46

Problem with lighter boots and indigo jeans is that often the indigo transfers onto them.

Honestly nice black boots and jeans is a classic look.

DrNick · 18/01/2014 18:47

i wear ace black suede with jeans
its nice
as long as both boot and jean is nice

MrsCampbellBlack · 18/01/2014 18:49

I've been wardrobe de-cluttering today - tried on long black boots with jeans - now that did look a whole look of wrong. But still can't bear to part with them.

JohnCusacksWife · 18/01/2014 19:10

Have never heard this "rule"before. I wear both black boots and brown boots with jeans depending on what colour my top/jacket is. Think both look good.

DrNick · 18/01/2014 19:11

really? only till next year /
i love the ankle boot thing as my legs are so emaciated that all long boots look liek wellies

clary · 18/01/2014 19:16

I wear brown boots but only because my boots are brown IYSWIM.

If they were black I would wear black. It would be fine. Can't afford two pairs of boots.

BTW I am a lot older than you OP and have never heard of this rule.

Boosiehs · 18/01/2014 19:22

Black jeans and brown boots = Doberman.

Shudder.

I wear brown boots if my top is more earthy or navy. Black otherwise.

NigellasGuest · 18/01/2014 20:33

I'm sorry. I'm sorry.
I have NEVER heard of this rule, PLUS, it all depends on Your Colours. As Does Everything.

wasabipeanut · 18/01/2014 23:26

Navy is the answer. I must admit that I think brown looks a bit dated and I just don't like how black and dark denim look on me. However, this year I got a lovely pair of navy, pretend suede, block heeled Chelsea boots from Asos and they look perfect with 7/8 jeans and skinnies.

I still however refuse to be parted with my light denim flares and for this I choose trainers thus resolving entire boot conundrum.
