BBH or other method to dry my hair? want to look more polished.

I got my hair (fine, long - just below shoulders) cut the other day, trying to grow out long layers at back, had small sweeping fringe cut in and straight across at ends (blunt cut) everywhere else. it's fine but there's lots of it. also highlighted.

anyway when blowdrying she said to use nozzle on hairdryer but point down (like wind tunnel) and create volume at roots with hands. she also suggested putting a roller (big) in front for fringe maybe if I have time

all fine - hair looks like it has static now - I need a serum and blowdrying lotion.

BUT I have a BBH not used much - should I use this? hairdresser hadn't heard of it.

OP you're going to get tons of people on here telling you that the BBH is the holy grail of hair devices.....
and an equal number who have theirs sitting in a box and think its a total waste of money.

I bought one because of advice here and the 40bumlady recommended it.
I'm delighted with mine.

Saying that, I have found that it has taken practice to get better at using it.
Plus, the day that I spend 30 minutes on my hair, its looks and lasts a lot better than the day I can only spend 10 on it.

However, I've gone from having hair up always unless blow-dried by hairdresser to being confident leaving it down most days. So if you have one, get it out and practice, practice.

thanks Redoubtable I just need to practice with it!

Also depends if you are then going to pull a hat on over your hair (like I did yesterday) - it will undo all your BBH good work...

I have a jaw length bob and for me the BBH was a waste of money. So much so I have just sold it on ebay. I didn't feel it achieved anything that I couldn't achieve with my hair dryer and GHDs. However, I wonder if BBH is actually better suited to longer hair like yours.

LadyVetinari · 15/01/2014 15:38

By the sound of it, my hair is of the same type and length as yours. I bought a regular hot air brush from Sainsbury's for £11-something about a fortnight ago, and can already do an equally good job with that as the hairdresser does with her Parlux drier and vented brush Smile.

The trick is to wash the hair, load it up with Wella Shockwaves extra hold mousse and VO5 volumising heat protection spray, comb the hair forwards with your head upside-down, and then blow everything other than your fringe practically dry in this (admittedly very silly) inverted position. Then restore yourself to your proper orientation, comb all of your hair back (aside from the fringe), and then brush very small locks of hair at a time with the hot brush. The long bits at the front of my hair are graduated in length, so I wrap those around the barrel for a flicky-inwards-y curl at the tips. It is ace, especially for somebody as useless at doing hair as me - I finally get to have flowy, bouncy hair all evening when I go out! Grin

I'd definitely give it a try if, like me, you don't want to risk £40-ish on a BBH!

I have a BBH but I wouldn't attempt to dry my hair completely with it. my attention span just doesn't last that long however I do really like it.

HelloBoys · 15/01/2014 16:12

LadyVetinari - I already HAVE the BBH. your ideas are excellent and along the lines of what the hairdresser said to me. Smile

I already have mousse but will try the one you say and get the heat protection spray.

Thanks!

Oops, sorry - I missed your last sentence! Blush

You're welcome, hope the tips work as well for you as they do for me. Heat protection spray is an absolute must, IMO - my hair only stays all swishy and voluminous if I start using the hot air brush when my hair is practically dry, and keep going well after I feel like stopping! (I realised this after thinking back to the last time I went to the hairdressers, when I practically had to hold my breath in order to prevent myself from wailing "Surely it's dry enough now?! Think of the split ennnnnnds!") One thing I forgot: a quick blast of Elnett afterwards really helps to keep it all in place, as well.

(NB: the combination of mousse, heat protection spray and Elnett probably isn't advisable if you're preparing for a candle lit dinner, fireworks display, or an umbrella-free walk in the rain... I know because my New Year's Eve consisted of all three, and I was both jittery and somewhat crispy by halfway through the evening...)

BBH definitely works best on hair that's been blasted with the hair dryer till it's 80% dry first. It is a lifesaver!
