Pierced ears have closed up....how/where to get them to be useable again?

I had my ears pierced when I was 13. Wore earrings through my teens and early 20s but gradually became more intolerant to non-precious metals. Some time in my mid-20s just gave up wearing earrings.

A dozen or so years later, although you can still see the holes they are partially closed up now. I'd quite like to wear earrings again. I'm not brave enough to try to jab an earring through them (and last time I tried that years ago I couldn't do it anyway).

Where's the best place to go to get them sorted out (am in London). Any recommendations? I can only wear precious metals....I'm guessing I would need to get some earrings to take with me to put in?

Sorry these all sound like really thick questions but I haven't done earrings for so long and have no idea where to start.

i'd go to a proper body piercing place. Anywhere else will use a gun. TBH I've not had a problem with a gun piercing myself, but others have, also the body piercing guys will be more accurate, assuming you want the hole through the old one.

Thank you - will check out body piercing places near me. They were done with a gun the first time but that was a long time ago now!

I was the same and had to have them re pierced next to the site of the original piercing . Just go to Claire's or a jewellers it doesn't cost much .

Mine healed up and I had them re-pierced, there were no problems with it. I am also sensitive to cheap metals, just mention it when you're at the piercers and I think you can usually pay a little extra to have a higher quality earring put in.

Mine have healed up again so I'll have to see if it's third time lucky next time I get them done.

With very similar background circumstances, I once got very very drunk at sunday lunch at a friends one weekend and inadvertently did shove my earing through a hole that had partially healed. I still have no recollection of actually doing it (or why!), but I woke up the next morning with a repierced ear! And have kept it clean and with a stud in ever since.

I pierced my ear myself for a second time when I was in my teens. I used an ice cube either side until it was quite numb then just shoved a clean piercing stud through Grin

Are you me? Same age for first piercing, same problems with intolerance, now considering how to get re-pierced so I can actually use my collection of earrings.

I had a second hole pierced in my ears when I was about 10. It was done by an elderly aunt who brandished a hot needle with a bit of black thread threaded through it. She asked me if I wanted it done and if so, was I prepared to put up with the pain. She told me it's the price of looking good and this was only an initiation and tht throughout my life I would put myself through much more suffering in te name of beauty. Hmm.

I remember offering my ear, then squeling and running off when the hot needle was close, then offering it again and squealing again until finally she got sick of me and I agreed to let her hold me down as do it.

I can't remember the pain. But I never wear an earring in the second hole anymore. It's been at least 20 years since I did. It's still there though and I can put one in anytime.

I re-pierced mine last year. Put a needle through a flame/ bathed lobes in surgical spirit/froze lobes with ice. I purchased new silver studs beforehand so there was no irritation & I could keep them in for 6 weeks like original piercing.
