Will I look like an overgrown teenager or a wannabe rapper in trainers?

I've always loved trainers but the last few years have mainly worn Converse or Ash style. Seems as though proper sports style trainers are back in though if the style blogs are to be believed - and I'm going to believe them because I like the idea :).

I really fancy a new pair and have a birthday coming up but I'm worried I won't be able to carry them off as well as I did in my youth (I'm 40ish).

I'd be wearing them mainly with skinny jeans and maybe a jersey blazer or biker unless anyone has any better ideas for what they'd go with - any excuse to buy more clothes!

Anyone? Don't want to make a massive mistake if bouncing around in a pair of Nike Air Max is going to make me look really sad :)

Absolutely buy some! I am after some too but don't want what everyone else has but that's hard because everyone is buying so many!

I love these - rstyle.me/n/ej3irxrbw

I also did a blog post all about the new trend of proper trainers to be worn on the street - wwwavenue57.blogspot.co.uk/2014/01/are-trainers-back-in-fashion.html

I'm 42. I don't think I can carry that look off without looking like I'm on my way to the gym.

I like the idea of looking current, I don't very often!

I've seen a few people recommending New Balance, I've never worn them myself but I love how those are quite neutral with a bit of brightness (I guess you'd call it a pop of colour but I'll have to shoot myself if I start talking like that!)

burnished - that's what I'm worried about...

Depends what trainers you are planning on getting?
I wouldn't go for the superbright ones that look like lego...perhaps blue or black with a brighter coloured accent?
As long as your not wearing them with super tight bleached jeans and a super tight high pony tail aka polish chic i think you'll look pretty slick. I'm a big trainer fan though. I'd love some nike airs but i can't afford them :(
Oh and don't carry a posh black handbag with them...the clash of styles is eyewatering...

I dropped converse a couple of years ago and replaced with 'proper' trainers. I've always loved trainers though. At the moment I have neon nike free run but I'd also like the all black version but they're expensive so I'll wait until spring. I also really like new balance trainers and find the comfortable if not a little small. I prefer a less chunky trainer so went for the 410 and 420s rather than the 574s.

Try it, there's an asos code about at the moment. A pair if jeans (boyfriend) and a sweatshirt or jumper, nice scarf and your away to go.

I'm so tempted by something really bright but agree that's probably not wise! I'm lucky that I've got fairly small feet so can often fit into kids sizes which makes them a bit more affordable.

I used to live in trainers when I was younger - from my first pair of fake high tops from the local market to a pair of Air Max 95 when I first started working in London. I wore them to death and they're still the most expensive shoes I've ever owned!

Not sure if these are your colour but I've just got them and I like them and they're a proper bargain.

CambridgeBlue · 15/01/2014 10:46

Wow what a great bargain! Not sure if khaki would go with much I wear but for £20 I could be tempted :)
