Where to buy clothes for 12 year old girl?

I've always bought the kids clothes from Next. I still do for my teenage ds. I really don't like the clothes they do for dd now she's older. Where does everyone shop for their early teens? She's only 12 and I just seem to be finding crop tops everywhere but she really doesn't want to be wearing kittens and bunnies anymore. Help please.

H&M, New Look, Forever 21, some Tammy stuff at BHS, Matalan. Loads of places do nice stuff. I don't buy expensive things for her though as she is growing like a weed just now.

OldBeanbagz · 13/01/2014 10:46

DD wears H&M, Primark, Zara and odd bits of Superdry (XS size). Very occasionally we find something at M&S but Next is was too babyish in her opinion.

lemonfairycake · 13/01/2014 10:59

I hadn't thought of Zara. I've had a look and they do some lovely bits. Thank you. We tried Bhs and liked the clothes but after a couple of washes most of it had holes in. It was a shame as they were perfect otherwise.

depends on your dd size. My 12 yr old wears adult size 8-10 but some of her friends are still very small and need childrens clothes.

I get Sainsburys for her basics and she likes New Look and some Johnny B, although it's been sized downwards so is less relevant now. H&M is also very good for her, although again in adult sizes.

Starballbunny · 13/01/2014 11:16

Newlook 915 and adult 6-8
H&M kids

Primark & Matlan for fun weekend relaxing stuff. DD trampolines and practices gymnastics in the garden. Leggings and vest tops are her home uniform (if she isn't turning back flips in her onsie)

Dotty P adult 6
M&S if you can avoid hello kitty (nice jeans, leggings, checked shirts)
Super dry for presents
Gap

Next have the best range of styles and sizes of coloured jeans and often shorts, even if tops are awful (bigger sizes than 12 web only which is really annoying).

Starballbunny · 13/01/2014 11:24

Children's clothes as much as possible because they are cheaper. A lot cheaper for trousers and shorts.

Tshirts and vest tops much less difference and Primark and Newlook adults give a much better choice. Irritatingly adults tops are also often far more suitable, no skulls and stupid slogans.

TheOriginalSteamingNit · 13/01/2014 11:27

My 12 year old pretty much chooses for herself, from H&M, Top Shop, New Look... quite likes some bits from Johnnie B, but few and far between. We have a trip to Primark every so often cos the girls love it though I find it stressful!

Think most of her favourites are Top Shop. Their jeans much better than the cheaper shops.

mimiasovitch · 13/01/2014 13:30

My very nearly 13 year old DD loves Zara, Johnnie B, H and M and Matalan. She has a number of sweatshirts in size 6 from Primark, but is too small for adult sizes on her bottom half. We tend to stick to Next for jeans, though she has some nice ones from Gap too.

uptheanty · 13/01/2014 13:33

River Island- the teen section is fab!

Stinklebell · 13/01/2014 13:37

My 12 year old likes H&M, New Look and Zara. She'll also wear stuff from Animal, Trespass, Billabong (outdoorsy/dude type shops) but the bulk of her wardrobe comes from H&M

CambridgeBlue · 13/01/2014 13:38

My DD is tiny so has only recently started to fit into the teen ranges. I still get her a lot of basics from Next - their jeans, plain t-shirts etc are always good although I agree a lot of their stuff is quite young looking.

Given the choice DD would shop in places like New Look, Tammy (BHS) or Primark and I don't mind some of the clothes from those but often find the quality a bit poor - Tammy especially. Tesco and Sainsburys can be good and I agree about Zara although I find it a bit hit and miss.

We both like Gap and there are often good discounts knocking about. M&S can be OK but as a pp poster said you need to discount all the character stuff which no 12 year old I know would be seen dead in.

She had her first Superdry t-shirt and hoodie for Xmas (both as presents) in XXS which you can only get online. They are a bit big but for the price I want them to last! That said, they are really lovely quality and a nice sporty style that I think is quite age-appropriate.

CambridgeBlue · 13/01/2014 13:39

Oh and FatFace can be good - better online though as a lot of the stores (near us anyway) are quite small and don't sell much kids' stuff.

BanoffeeSplitz · 13/01/2014 13:48

Uniqlo always good for basics - very plain indeed but handy for when you need that. Their XS is quite small, and now they have a children's range as well (think goes up to about age 12) so even better value.

Zara / Gap good for slightly less plain basics, especially in the sales. Also with Gap (& Uniqlo) always worth scanning for XS sizes in the adult size sales racks.

Her own shopping which she started to do around that age was almost all H&M.

Stinklebell · 13/01/2014 13:49

Oh, I forgot about Superdry. Yes, very popular with DD, I've found XXS in TK Maxx recently. Also Jack Wills (when there's a sale on)

Starballbunny · 13/01/2014 13:59

Just googled River island, their girls and teen range looks a lot better than last time I looked.

(last time it was all goth skulls and crucifixes, to grown up and rock chick, for even DD2. Who does animal print, leggings under shorts and Aztec Ts)

Jack Wills and Hollister - they do a XS size which fitted my DD from about 12. The online sales are really good and the stuff lasts until they grow out of it. My DS12 now wears his sister’s old sweatshirts so they’re really good value for money. There’s a lot on eBay too. Just got my DD a pair of JW jeans for £9 and a JW fleece lined denim jacket for £12.50.

Applefairy · 14/02/2021 05:40

@Ookokkk, my DD also likes PLT - she is petite and the sizing is a wide range (nothing sexy! grey marle joggers, sweatshirts etc) - I didn't like the fabric but she was happy with it.

She also likes some Zara and a lot of H&M.

I miss the days I could buy her clothes from mini Boden!

FuckingHateRats · 14/02/2021 09:08

Topshop and H&M, mainly in an XS or a 6-8.
