it says dry clean, but thats too expensive, can it be washed on a low temp at the silk cycle?

I'm not sure I'd risk it as replacement blazer will be v expensive. Has it good a mark on it? Could you just dab it with water?

I rarely bothered getting my DSes wool blazers dry cleaned, just once in a blue moon,

MrsCampbellBlack · 11/01/2014 10:24

I wash my DS's all the time - I do it on the wool cycle with woolite and take it out and hang up as soon as its finished.

Fozzleyplum · 11/01/2014 10:36

Noooo - very likely to shrink it. I get my DC's blazers dry professionally very occasionally. IN between, I dry clean them myself using thiswww.lakeland.co.uk/23530/Hagerty-Dry-Cleaning-Kit-]]

nipersvest · 11/01/2014 10:40

wash it, but DO NOT USE THE WOOL CYCLE! it needs to be done with cold water, no heat at all. (am a textile designer so i work with material all the time).

MrsCampbellBlack · 11/01/2014 10:43

My wool cycle is cold water. And it works fine. I also do my cashmere on this cycle, again its fine.

Dontletthemgetyoudown · 11/01/2014 12:06

I wash ds2's on a 30 min cycle with no heat. He bikes too school and it's needed doing at least once a week as he never puts his waterproof jacket on over the top or put his blazer in his rucksack.

slalomsuki · 11/01/2014 12:11

I wash ours also on the lowest temperature wool cycle, wool asking liquid and hang it up over the bath to drip dry once done. Absolutely fine and a lot less expensive than dry cleaning every half term.

VworpVworp · 11/01/2014 12:15

Goodness- can you really wash them nipers? Shock

They're £90 a pop... it's a lot to make a mistake on! (Thick felted wool, not like a men's suit jacket)

MrsCampbellBlack · 11/01/2014 13:07

Vrorp - DS's is pale grey thick felted wool - and also about £90 or thereabouts. But I've also washed a wool coat of my own the same way and it was fine.

ssd · 11/01/2014 13:36

thanks, seems to be the secret is washing it on zero degrees with woolite then hanging it up straight away.....will check my washing machine does a zero temp cycle then go for it x...PS would ariel liquid do instead of woolite?

OP posts:
MrsCampbellBlack · 11/01/2014 13:57

Possibly - I just always use woolite for wool and cashmere

ssd · 11/01/2014 14:50

ok, and do you find washing it takes away then bits always stuck to it that a link roller doesnt remove? and how long does it take to dry?

OP posts:
slalomsuki · 11/01/2014 15:14

Absolutely no to ariel liquid. I tried on an old blazer and it shrinks it

ssd · 11/01/2014 15:19

thanks

i have washed wool clothing. the thing to watch out for is the outer shell (wool) and the lining will shrink at different rates, but if the wool absolutely has to get wet, then cold water is going to minimise shrinkage. also use a detergent specifically for wool. i can't guarantee it won't shrink at all though. how dirty is it?, would a surface wash with a cloth suffice?

PastaandCheese · 13/01/2014 17:52

Can't comment on blazers as mine are babies still but I wash dry clean only wool coats in the machine in the way described above. Woolite, cold wash (delicates on my machine) and hang straight up to dry.
