Have I just commited a major fashion faux pas???

I've just bought a pair of black, backless (and sideless LOL), flat, pointed toed shoes (so toes are covered) unfortunately can't seem to find a picture online to illustrate.

I personally think they're hideous and wouldn't be seen dead in them on the street - but I've bought them for work as I need shoes which cover my toes - and I can't bear wearing 'proper' shoes in this heat............do they sound like a real fashion faux pas - should I hide them away if people come round???

Best not invite anyone round at all in case they see them.

Blu · 26/07/2006 18:00

Glad you have found something to wear for work - comfort is ALL, do you hear me, ALL! Step AWAY from the Style Threads!

thewomanwhothoughtshewasahat · 26/07/2006 18:05

have they got beading on them?

HRHQueenOfQuotes · 26/07/2006 18:06

no!!! They're just plain black with 'holes' in the toe bits making a sort of lacy pattern (gawd I'm cr*p at describing things LOL).

thewomanwhothoughtshewasahat · 26/07/2006 18:07

hmmm. best get this thread deleted before you know who sees it

thewomanwhothoughtshewasahat · 26/07/2006 18:07

and best promise never to wear them with socks.

HRHQueenOfQuotes · 26/07/2006 18:10

socks??? Wear them with socks??? Are you crazy!!!!!!

I wish I could find a photo of a similar pair online - because I want to know just how bad they are (I know they're pretty dire - but I had to buy some for work - been wearing my open toed sandals and got into trouble at work the other night (because some stupid girl decided to wear her flops to work and had her toe run over with the hoist.........with a 15stone man in it!)

The heat is making me very mild about fashion questions. I stagger about in some kind of a haze and I barely register through my sunglasses what people have on these days.

For me though, shoes have to be round-toed - sorry.

jampots · 26/07/2006 18:12

I personally dont like these but they do look comfy

HRHQueenOfQuotes · 26/07/2006 18:13

SS - you tell me where I can buy a cheap pair of backless (and sideless LOL) shoes with round toes (which is what I'd prefer), in black, with no chavvy beading, in Wellingborough and I'll go buy them

OP posts:
MrsJohnCusack · 26/07/2006 18:13

but would shoes with covered toes make ANY difference if a hoist and 15 stone man ran over your feet ???!!!!

HRHQueenOfQuotes · 26/07/2006 18:15

yes they would - I know as I caught my toe the other week in my sandals (but didn't tell anyone) - and I also caught my toes with the same man in it a few months back with my 'winter' closed toe shoes.

It's also hygeine - don't really want anyone peeing or sh*tting over your bare toes !

OP posts:
SSSandy · 26/07/2006 18:15

Why do the shoes have to cover your toes? Is this a work regulation ?

JackieNo · 26/07/2006 18:16

HRHQOQ - you need crocs (they come in black). Many of the style police on MN really hate them, but others say they're really comfortable.

HRHQueenOfQuotes · 26/07/2006 18:18

! £28!!!! For work shoes!!! You must be joking - these ones today were £7 in the sale . And with the amount of 'foot' those shoes would be covering I may as well be wearing my horrible winter ones!

SSSandy · 26/07/2006 18:19

I'm going to the Birkenstock shop on Saturday. Planning on getting some of these, if they're comfy. They also come in black. I'd find them respectable enough for work but I'm getting them for my holiday.

madrid.shoes
sorry it's in German but the photo is what counts

HRHQueenOfQuotes · 26/07/2006 18:20

they're nice - but no good for me - as they're open toed!

OP posts:
MrsJohnCusack · 26/07/2006 18:33

I don't think your shoes sound that bad at all TBH
and better than being toeless

SSSandy · 26/07/2006 19:29

being toeless makes me think of toes being hacked off somehow..

MT - no worries of that - I'll wear my everyday sandals to work as per usual, change when I get there, and then change before I come home again - the rest of the time the said items will remain in the my work bag

QoQ I know just what you mean - this shape but sans heel - not bad but think they look better with trousers than skirts

I can't wear open toes for work either and have been singing the praises of these all summer - actually Clarks are quite good for this - several here , here , and here

thewomanwhothoughtshewasahat · 27/07/2006 09:11

QoQ - I DREAMT about your shoes last night. That's really quite worrying. They were very slipper-like.

HRHQueenOfQuotes · 27/07/2006 09:15

badger - that first link you posted is the right idea - but like you say without the heal.
