GHDs... Are they really the only straighteners to buy?

I have chin length hair in a bob...it's wavy and annoying. I tried a friend's GHDs on New Year's Eve and my lank lifeless fine hair looked, well, amazing! But are there other straighteners out there that are cheaper but really just as good, or do I have to take the plunge??

Take the plunge!

Weelady77 · 08/01/2014 19:08

I'm on my 3rd pair but my friend has purple zebras I think there called and there even better when mines die (hopefully not for a while) I'm going to get them

Cheaper ones cause a lot of static and frizz in my experience. I would definitely recommend GHDs, I don't normally advocate spending a lot of money like that but they are 100% worth it. My hair looks like I stepped out of the salon after using them! :)

GHDs all the way.

Mine transformed me from a frizzy Crystal Tips. I luffs them.

I've bought myself a steam pod, just as fantastic as ghd's if not better IMO, I don't even know where my ghd's are nowadays

WhereMyMilk · 08/01/2014 19:32

Yes definitely worth it!

My GhDs arrived today and I can really notice the difference in my hair! So much quicker than my previous babyliss ones which always left the ends looking frizzing. Got them for £74 down from £99 on lookfantastic.com just last week.

Bithurt · 08/01/2014 20:27

I bought ghds years ago and they were great. When they needed replaced I bought another set and they're so useless. I sent them back as they don't seem very hot and their still the same.

picnicbasketcase · 08/01/2014 20:29

Remington ones are very good too.

Only1scoop · 08/01/2014 20:30

Ghd's or Hair art the best.

blobandsnail · 09/01/2014 18:47

Can anyone recommend me some GHD's. I've been using some babyliss straighteners for years. They were alright to start with but now my hair often looks frizzy and they take forever to heat up. I always wondered why my hair never looked as sleek as everyone else's and thinking this may be why.

I got some only for christmas so thinking it might be a good opportunity. I have long fairly thick hair and never have much time in the mornings. I was looking at there www.johnlewis.com/ghd-gold-v-max-hair-styler/p231760885. Has anyone any experience of these or can recommend something else?

There's the link.

blob those are similar to the ones I just replaced. I had them 10 years and I've replaced the cord twice but the main body of the straighteners was still going strong. I only replaced them because I dropped them on the tiled floor and one plate fell out, repaired it and they STILL worked however they weren't aligned properly and I had to squeeze them to get the same effect. My hair is long and very, very prone to frizz.

Weelady77 · 09/01/2014 18:56

Blobandsnail, go for the original black ones the coloured ones are definitely not as good

Weelady77 · 09/01/2014 18:57

Sorry didn't see your link yeah those ones are fabby
