Brown discoloration around eyes

I saw some photos taken of me over the last year or so yesterday, and the stand-out thing I can see making me look tired and older is sort of brown pigmentation around my eyes. I usually wear foundation and concealer under my eyes but this pigment is on the eyelids. I don't usually wear eyeshadow as it often creases, but I am thinking I need to start adding in some other make up to cover up this problem.

I have very pale skin, dark hair, blue eyes and winter colouring. Any recommendations for what might help? £££ not a problem.

This has happened to me recently, I've been putting it down to the ageing process (yuck). I use a Bourjois concealer, think its called Healthy mix, as an eyeshadow base, then a little translucent powder, then eyeshadow. It looks ok even without eyeshadow.

I had this years ago due to sun damage I think. clinique do a cream which actually worked and it did not come back.

Do you take any regular medication? My DH had this problem and it made his eyes look very dark ( and dirty). It was worse when exposed to sunlight. His medication was changed and the situation improved.

No, no regular medication. I think I just need to wear more makeup to cover it up!

Do you drink enough water Souper?

Souper · 10/01/2014 14:58

Yes I think so. I honestly think it is just a getting older thing that is noticeable because I am pale and cool toned, so brownish colouring is very noticeable on me.

Lemonaid - Benefit.

A very lovely friend of mine has discoloration which sounds similar to yours around her eyes and finds it works a treat and I use it to keep my eye shadow on and generally makes me look a little more "pepped up"

Beware of fakes online though.

bitter experience

the girl last night on 'superskinny' on C4 last night had lots of brown around her eyes- she drank lots of black coffee. After she dropped to 1-2 cups a day her eyes looked better. Maybe ditch the caffeine?

caudalie do a fantastic light lotion/serum thing that works wonders for this problem. I used it after my last pregnancy for brown pigment. Can't for the life of me remember what it's called but it's white, comes in a glass bottle with a silver dropper top. Also, afterwards I used the eucerin brightening range, to keep up the effects. This was also fabulous.

Wrt to make-up, try the clinique pen concealer and their little tubes of long-lasting cream eyeshadow. A goldy-cream colour will give the area a lift.

Lemonaid - yes, that rings a bell. I think I have some buried in a drawer somewhere so I'll try that as first port of call. Thanks!

Mine are a bit dark and the Mac paint pots in a nude colour on your eyelids are great as they stay on and don't go all wrinkly in the creases Painterly is meant to be good for pale skin and Layin' Low is good on my tired and sallow medium skin.

Honestly the BEST eyelid coverer and primer and whateverelser is the collection 2000 (I think they're just called collection now) long lasting concealer.

4.99 and I think it beats urban decay and everything else. I find it too thick to use as a concealer anywhere else, so I use the nars light-reflecting under my eyes with a touch of the by terry pen highlighter (I am a makeup junkie, can you tell??!). For the eyelids though, the collection concealer is fantastic - lighter, brighter (if used on its own) and also makes a fabulous primer.
