Calling all short people - where do you buy dresses?!

I'm unashamedly short (5ft 2) and really struggle buying dresses. I prefer to wear something just about the knee but even a lot of the petite styles seem to be just below the knee.

In an ideal world I'd be looking for print dresses that can double for work and then dinner after (think something like Phase Eight, Planet) but everything I like is too long - have just spent the evening trying on most of John Lewis with no success. Does anyone have any tips for good places to look (budget not really a problem, would happily pay more for a decent fit) or do I resign myself to always having to get things adjusted - which never really seems to work...

H&M here - I tried on loads of dresses and bought two.

I think you can't beat having a good dressmaker for alterations. I have a brilliant woman who made my favourite coat new again, nips on tops at the shoulder (you probably find they gape too)

Maybe you could go down that route.

I think that's the problem mrswellyboot - finding a good dressmaker. I'll do a bit if shopping around and maybe keep that as a last resort if I find something I really like.

Second ASOS petite (and some non petite, their mini length is perfect for me at 4ft11) and also Oasis.

Joules and white stuff are usually shorter cut... or the tunics are long enough to be dresses! I am shorter than you...

I'm 5'2" and size 10 and definitely agree with the poster who mentioned Oasis, they are the perfect length on me!

4ft 11 here & another vote for oasis & warehouse. The cut & length of their dresses are definitely on the petite side. They would be indecently short on anyone over 5 ft 4!
