Open pores/blackheads

Hello all, just interested to see whether anyone has any advice or miracle cures!

I have large open pores on my nose, mainly in the creases above my nostrils and on the sides of my nose. They are quite noticeable (to me at least!). If I squeeze them Blush then they clear out but this hurts and is time consuming - also don't know if this is the best thing for my skin in the long run but it's pretty addictive though Any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

What's your current skincare routine? A good cleansing method is usually the answer to getting rid of blackheads.

I use an antibacterial cleanser (as I can be a bit acne prone), cleaned off using the hot cloth method. Then Simple oil free moisturiser afterwards. Same thing twice a day.

Need to pop out for a while - in case anyone thinks I've disappeared! Smile

I have the same. I've never got rid of them completely but very regular (gentle) exfoliation using an oil cleaner and muslin cloth, plus an occasional exfoliating mask, makes mine much smaller and cleaner.

The antibacterial cleanser might be too harsh for you and causing you to produce more oil instead of less.

sorry that should say 'oil cleanser' not cleaner!

Are they actually blackheads? Google sebaceous filaments! These are the oil glands on your nose and they will never permanently go Sad. I just try to disguise mine use a primer like benefits porefessional.

Cleanse with coconut oil and a microfibre cloth. Or try cetaphil cleanser with a microfibre cloth.

Microfibre is the nemesis of black heads.

Pore strips. M&S have them - you wet the strip, drape it across your nose, leave it to dry till hard and then gently peel it off with all the contents of your pores. It is weirdly satisfying!

Just came across this post about pore clearing after googling sebaceous filaments, might be worth a try - the Origins mask she uses is great IME!

squoosh · 07/01/2014 16:00

Be careful trying coconut oil. It can break some people's complexions out. Me for instance!

ladylashes · 07/01/2014 16:57

Thanks everyone!

Yes madamecake, having done some research I think they are indeed sebaceous filaments. And they're permanent. Bugger!

That link is really useful Elizabeth, thanks! That mask looks lovely too.

If you do use a clay mask like the origins one, make sure you moisturise afterwards because it's quite drying.

Thanks for the link Elizabeth, I like the look of that pore scrubby thing!
