Ok for an Oz wedding?

Have a Feb (summer wedding) in Oz - I have a long ankle length dress with a sparkly shrug. I need dull gold/bronze coloured footwear - the dress is a dark gold/khaki colour (looks a lot better than I have described!).

Would these sandals be ok to wear?

The length of the dress means heels would look wrong, unless they are very low. Not sure if the sandals aren't formal enough?

I have looked all around the shops but can't find anything - obviously it's the wrong time of the year here for sparkly sandals - can anyone suggest any alternatives please?

Thanks so much - all help appreciated! I don't have long to get some shoes...

OOh they're lovely! Smart and glam enough for a wedding, but casual enough for the occasion.

In Oz, pretty much everyone wears 'Thongs' (flip flops), and those that don't are barefoot.

Enjoy your wedding!

No such thing as formal in Australia.

whereisshe · 07/01/2014 16:00

I'm Australian and I think those are far too informal for a wedding, unless it's on the beach.

CosyTeaBags · 07/01/2014 16:04

Really whereis?

I was once a bridesmaid at a full on formal UK church wedding. I wore sparkly flip flops underneath my long dress. No one batted an eyelid.

I suppose it would help if you described the wedding a bit to us OP - is it formal, or a beach wedding?

wickedfairy · 07/01/2014 16:04

Its a late afternoon/evening wedding in stables/vineyard.

Could anyone help me find a more formal version of those please? Maybe more of a shoe, so more foot coverage. I don't want to wear something inappropriate!

TIA

X-posts!

Invitation says formal - it's in a vineyard. I think I feel that maybe they are not formal enough but I am struggling to find something that goes!

I need flat or very low heel - bronze/gold coloured. I am 36 - I saw the odd pair but they are "old" type of shoes and would look bizarre.

I am starting to panick that I won;t find anything!

What about these? Not sure if they would be too high though and still showing toes?? What do you think?

Its the wrong time of year to find a selection of sandals here. You might be better off buying them in Australia. Myer and David Jones are the two big department stores. You might see something on their websites.

CosyTeaBags · 07/01/2014 16:38

Hmm if you're not happy about them being formal enough, you might feel uncomfortable with them. Also if the invitation says 'formal' then I'd tend to go for a heel.

The second link you sent look nice. I don't think showing toes is a problem, especially in a warm country. But I know nothing about this sort of thing, so I'm the wrong person to be giving you advice really... I just jumped in and thought the original shoes looked lovely!

A word of warning against relying on finding some shoes once you're there though - depends on how much time you have, but the last thing you'll want is to be under pressure once you're there, because you'll have to buy something, and have to go shopping, and if they don't have what you want you'll feel panic...!

MrsMillions · 07/01/2014 16:43

Do you live near an outlet centre? I find they can be handy when buying things out of season - and you can bag a bargain too.

rubybleu · 07/01/2014 22:26

The first pair are much too informal for a vineyard wedding (I'm also Australian). The second pair are fine.

Feb is likely too late to (reliably) buy sandals in Australia - they'll be starting to stock autumn clothes. Madness, I know! Asos may be a good place to try.

bickie · 07/01/2014 23:07

Agee - flip flops too informal for formal wedding. I did risk buying summer dress shoes for a wedding in Australia once I was there. But had a very panicked unpleasant morning at Bondi Junction trying to find a pair. The second pair look lovely - I would go for them. Have a nice time. Wedding in a vineyard sounds lovely!

bunnymother · 08/01/2014 02:16

Another Australian voting for the 2nd pair - they look perfect.

AllThreeWays · 08/01/2014 02:27

Australian here too. Flip flops are not good if invite says formal. Second pair are great. Weather could be stinking hot or quite cool, so be prepared for either.

hazchem · 08/01/2014 02:32

Thongs are rubbish for dancing in. So you'll be a bit stuck on the side lines I think. would these work with your dress.

PrimalLass · 08/01/2014 09:31

I'd go for something like a jewelled wedge heel with a maxi dress. Kitten heels look wrong IMO.

These are slightly dressier maybe, but would be better without the cork sole.

PrimalLass · 08/01/2014 09:39

Moda in Pelle have a few pairs.

PrimalLass · 08/01/2014 09:45

hazchem they are lovely.

Or these: which I may have just ordered

Buy the Ash ones.

echt · 08/01/2014 12:01

You would have to hurry to get the sandals in Oz, as I saw winter coats being stacked up in Myer today.

Because it will be 32 tomorrow.

Having said that, DFO will have them, rain or hail.

wickedfairy · 08/01/2014 13:19

Thank you all, glad for your opinions! I won't get the flip flops, I had a funny feeling they wouldn't be formal enough!
