Nice shampoo for oily hair?

My hair is disgusting - starts to look like an oil slick 24 hours after being washed. It's very straight, and very thick (and to do the beastly stuff justice it is still its natural colour even though I'm nearly 40). It's also short, so I at least don't have the oily roots, dry ends problem.

Harsh anti-dandruff ones make my scalp really sore and itchy, so those are out. I'm using an Avon one at the moment but it makes my hair feel really stripped and 'squeaky' so can't be doing it any good. The one before that was John Frieda Brilliant Brunette, which felt a bit heavy but was otherwise good. I don't mind spending a bit on a really good shampoo - does anyone have recommendations? I've had Bumble & Bumble but am underwhelmed.

Tresemme " vitamin c deep cleansing for normal hair' is really good

I've started using Apivita Propoline for oily hair a few months ago, and it's working well. I've really struggled with finding a good shampoo that doesn't turn me into a chip pan within 12 hours. I would definitely recommend it.

The other one that works is Arran Aromatics cedar wood and something (the one they used to make for Hotel du Vin) but I stopped using it because it started itching and flaking my scalp. Not sure if they still make that but anyway it sounds like it would irritate you in the same way

I use Avalon peppermint revitalise shampoo. It's the best I've tried for greasy hair. I use Neutrogena T Gel for greasy hair about once a month too. The Avalon has made a big difference.

Don't use the conditioner though. I can't get it to wash out. Yuck.

I quite fancy that, ThursdayLast: does it make your hair smell of gin?

These are all great suggestions, thanks! I will see what's in stock when I go shopping at the weekend.

Haha, no definitely not like gin (although I now can't decide if that's a pro or a con?!)
The solid shampoos last forever too, lather really well and leave hair squeaky clean. I'm using one called 'new' at the mo, and I think it really did help with the post natal hair loss drama!
