Jack Wills question....

Rassy · 06/01/2014 19:42

Hi - have bought in the Jack Wills sale their navy Ingliston Gillet. Was planning on wearing to walk dog, run errands etc. Was not planning on wearing with a JW hoody and going shopping! Dd1 (age 14) is horrified I have bought one - she already has the same gillet. I have assured her I will not wear it when I am with her and she has her's on. Is it 'sad' at 44 years to be wearing a JW hoody, albeit not channelling typical 14 year old style?!!

I don't think its that nice for your dd to be wearing the same coat as her own mother. So in that way you are spoiling it for her.

dexter73 · 06/01/2014 19:47

Don't wear the same jacket as your daughter! I agree with Savoy that it will spoil it for her.

Climbingthewalls12 · 06/01/2014 19:47

Its not sad but i'm with your DD about you buying the same one. I'm in my 20s and would be totally Hmm if she or my sister bought the same clothes as me, and they dont even live with me.

Rassy · 06/01/2014 20:01

Thanks for the comments. I think I knew deep down it wasn't on! So tomorrow me and my JW gilet will be going to the post office to bid a fond farewell!

I wear my teen sons Jack Wills cast off sweayshirts. I wouldn't actually buy anything for myself from there, I don't think.

dexter73 · 06/01/2014 20:06

The sacrifices a mum will make for her daughter's happiness Wink!

Rassy · 06/01/2014 20:12

I'll tell Dd1 that!!

I don't think you should worry about wearing JW but I do understand your dds annoyance on this one sorry Smile

tracypenisbeaker · 06/01/2014 20:38

Ill go against the grain here and say wear what you want. If she wears jeans does that mean theyre off limits as well? Its not like she had it custom made. There are thousands of people in the uk wearing the same thing, thats the risk you run when you buy mass produced clothes! I know loads of other people will disagree with me on this one, but Im 20 years old and my mum pinches my stuff all the time and Im flattered that she deems me worthy of emulation ;)

tracypenisbeaker · 06/01/2014 20:39

Especially as she is critical of most other aspects of my life

pixelchick10 · 06/01/2014 20:46

I'm with everyone else (and I also have a 14 y old DD!) I'd part company with the JW gilet ... I'll always associate them with teenagers!! Although I think Tracy's comments are rather nice ... though I don't think my D would deem me worth of emulation ;)

JustSpeakSense · 06/01/2014 20:50

I too think 44 is way too old to be wearing JW.

What about a Joules Gillet?

YoungBritishPissArtist · 07/01/2014 11:30

If you like it, then keep it and wear it. I've no truck with "You're too old for..." statements.
I'm sure your DD will get over the indignity Wink

dottyaboutstripes · 07/01/2014 11:34

I'm 44 and I'm wearing Jack Wills jeans today (which look fabulous Wink)

Of course the issue here is that you've bought the exact same item as your dd!

PurpleSprout · 07/01/2014 11:57

One of my junior colleagues pronounced that no-one over 30 - or possibly 25 - should wear Jack Wills or Superdry. It was dress down day in the summer and I was wearing a Superdry dress with a JW cardigan at the time...

I don't see why JW itself would be 'off limits' just because you're not a teenager. There are some things in there I wouldn't wear, but more because I'm short and a bit overweight than because I'm over 30 Hmm

Bowlersarm · 07/01/2014 12:05

In my area the rough rules seem to be hollister/Abercrombie for teenagers. Jack Wills for teens, college age. SuperDry for anyone up to about 40. (Disclaimer: I am not particularly fashionable, these are my observations through buying for my teens)

ElizabethBathory · 07/01/2014 12:07

Never seen anything I like in Superdry but JW do gorgeous wool and cashmere jumpers and wool coats. Not remotely teenagerish! They do plenty of hideous stuff too, but so do most shops.

SoupDragon · 07/01/2014 12:17

I don't think there's a problem with wearing Jack Wills at 44. Wearing the exact same item as your 14yo DD is, however, simply not on - can you imagine your mother wearing something identical to you?

cloudskitchen · 07/01/2014 12:58

I'm 42 and I like superdry. my daughter is 11 and she likes superdry however we would never choose the same items.

On a slightly different note, I wss in hollister with her the other day and they seem to have upped the wattage in their lightbulbs. No more stumbling around in the dark Wink

Weelady77 · 07/01/2014 13:43

I have JW joggers and have punched my DS hoodies I love them there so comfy Smile

Weelady77 · 07/01/2014 13:44

Pinched even Wink

JessMcL · 07/01/2014 13:49

cloudskitchen- that made me chuckle.

JW/Hollister (albeit overpriced) do make comfy clothes. I nick DS's Superdry hoodie when he isn't hear- super warm and saves putting the heating on.

higgle · 07/01/2014 13:49

I'm 57 and I wear odd bits of both Jack Wills and Superdry

pixelchick10 · 07/01/2014 16:52

I wouldn't touch either - but agree the superdry hoodies are really soft
