Got a wedding to go to and want to look vaguely 1930s - can anyone help?

I don't even know what a 1930s style dress would be like exactly... It's a smart wedding and I'm a member of the bridal party so want to make a big effort. Any ideas where to start?

It will be summer and I'm 5'5", size 8, small to medium bust (can't do braless unless dress is boned/very structured), broad-ish shoulders and narrow hips so don't look great in jackets or top-heavy styles. Would prefer not to wear very high heels, unless absolutely necessary. Small heels fine flats even better.

Ooh, exciting FullOn, let us know what you find! I now have the art deco Coast clutch and it's perfect, not too bulky like lots of box clutches (won't fit much beyond lipstick and keys though!)

Thanks Claud and Elizabeth, I was so excited I tried it all on last night and twirled around the lounge much to DH's amusement.

I love all this stuff, it's such a glamorous era isn't it?

Reading upthread about the Keira Knightley Atonement dress reminded me of this Elizabeth www.edressit.com/edressit-green-celebrity-keira-knightly-ball-party-dress-00082404-_p6.html

I almost bought it a while back for a Black Tie do, but was a bit wary of the quality. I have since bought dresses from them and the quality has actually been great. Never had anything made to measure though.

Not sure how you'd accommodate a bra in it though? I think they come with those foam pad supports built in to the dress, not sure if that would be supportive enough?

Oh gosh it's so beautiful FullOn. I think it's too revealing for a wedding though :(

This might be a slightly random suggestion but if you wanted a real vintage 30s dress, have you thought about hiring one from your local authority costume hirer? Ours has loads of vintage clothing - which they lend to museums and theatre groups. They hire to individuals too - cost is really minimal - but they have some beautiful and amazing stock.

No I hadn't thought of that Chocoloategirl, because I didn't know such a thing existed - will look into it, thanks!
