I think I need to use a skin serum but don't want to make an expensive mistake.

My skin is a bit of a disaster area, I have an under active thyroid which has made my already dry sensitive skin ten times worse.

I'm 40 with fair skin which is prone to redness and is sore in the morning, and extremely dry. I have used clinique sensitive moisturiser for years which doesn't irritate me skin, great, but I think I need more and thought a serum might be the way to go.

I usually have quite a good diet, love vegetables excluding Christmas pig out but I'm planning on stepping up my fruit intake and more water.

Any recommendations for a serum that works for sensitive skin would be much appreciated.

Try the serum from the Simply Pure range at Superdrug. It costs about £2.50 and I love it. It was recommended by Sali Hughes from the Guardian for dry/dehydrated skin as one of the best serums she's used.

You're right about diet too - I find that almonds, avocados, tons of water, no caffeine, no fags, sensible boozing and as much sleep as possible make a huge difference. And exercise, running for me - gives a glow like nothing else.

Thanks Lotta, £2.50 is well worth a try.

OOh by the way, it's the blue range, not the green one. I think the green is normal skin, the blue is dry/dehydrated

Hope you like it Smile

I use Aldi's (might be Lidl's) serum. I have really sensitive skin, prone to redness, and I don't have a problem with it. I also use their wrinkle filler and moisturiser - again, no problems with sensitivity. The most expensive product in their range is a fiver, so it's not a huge outlay either.

It's Aldi - and it's very good. Superdrug's blue lid one is also good. It's a bit more expensive but the Apavita range in M&S does a few different serums (hydrating, brightening, anti-wrinkle etc) which are great, and they're less than £10.

I got bought the origins mega brightening skintone evening amazing serum for christmas £60 for a bottle so thought it must be good! 3 days on, i looked like my 13 acne prone self, it had dried and burnt my skin and i really didnt want to go outside the door!

I ended up buying the aldi 1 as i had no money just to try, can honestly say its fabulous! cost £3.50 and smells nice too!
