Looking old around my eyes, what do I need?

I saw my face close up in a magnifying mirror today, it was hideous. My eyes particularly looked so old and wrinkly.

I am a tired 38 year old single mother to 2 young children one of whom is yet to sleep through the night at 2.5 years old! Inevitably I look knackered most of the time but today I just looked so old.

I use eye cream and I tend to buy mid range products (laser renew, Olay etc) what can you recommend for me to and reduce my wrinkles and make my eyes look less haggish?? Am prepared to spend a bit more than usual.

Same age, same problem MrsRS (mmmm like him too). I read a lot about Eva Fraser's face exercises and have decided this is worth a go. I ordered her book and dvd from Amazon, after I saw how terrific she looks herself at 82! Check out the This Morning clip on YouTube www.youtube.com/watch?v=YcyRLKq3aZg

Vaseline all around eyes at bedtime really helps for me. Also you could try a (very!) gently shimmering, pale golden, pinkish or lilac-ish eyeshadow, used sparingly it can brighten and warm up your eyes. I much prefer this look now (mid 40s) - if I try using a darker shadow I immediately look old and haggard.

Also agree with sleep - I know that's hard now but you should get a good night's sleep eventually so you can look forward to the positive effects that will have. I gave up expensive eye creams years ago as they just make my skin sensitive and do nothing for me.

And remember no one else looks at you through a magnifying mirror!

SBC (Simply Beautiful Cosmetics) Collagen Gel in morning

Elemis Pro Collagen Eye Serum at night

I've got a couple of M&S Time Delay eyegels in a rollerball wand (bought in the sale to take on holiday but I really like them )

I read on here about using fish oil. I've bee doing it for 3 days and my husband commented today that my wrinkles have gone. I'm 38 also, 2 dc aged 6 and 4 who have NEVER slept through the night and i work full time so you can imagine what I look like.
Ds did say I smelt like a kipper though!

Parentingfailure · 05/01/2014 21:50

Should say fish oil applied directly to the skin not swallowed.

Naicecuppatea · 06/01/2014 10:31

Is this fish oil or cod liver oil? Sounds intriguing if a bit whiffy!

Floisme · 06/01/2014 11:58

I would start by throwing out that magnifying mirror - they are designed to make women feel crap. No-one, but no-one ever sees you like that. And hang on in there - my son didn't sleep through until he was 3. It will happen!

As for products, I use oil at night: wheatgerm, coconut or almond but anything expensive is, in my humble opinion, pure hokum. However I do believe in the 'smoke and mirrors' school of style and beauty and I like the sound of Touche Eclat (although it's more for dark circles than wrinkles, I think). I would avoid wearing black; even if it suits you it is unforgiving of wrinkles and shadows and, if it doesn't suit, it looks dreadful. And I would spend the money you were putting aside for creams on new clothes that flatter your shape and skin tone. Then no-one will even notice the wrinkles!

lurkingaround · 06/01/2014 12:04

Oh definately do what Floisme says. Throw out the fecking magnifying mirror. Implement of torture.

Parentingfailure · 07/01/2014 00:21

I'm using the fish oil capsules I got with my pregnacare years ago. Not sure if they are just cod liver oil?

burnishedsilver · 07/01/2014 00:30

Sunglasses :-)

The slightest hint of a glare is all the excuse I need.

MillyRules · 07/01/2014 01:28

z
Thing is though, if you are starting to not see too good close up and need readers then a magnifying mirror is essentail.

recall · 07/01/2014 01:30

fish oil ?

Floisme · 07/01/2014 07:00

Milly why is it essential? Genuine question as I have the worst eye sight known to man (both distance and close up) and never use one!

MillyRules · 07/01/2014 13:27

To see any stray hairs ( whiskers) growing on chin. So I either use my " reader' glasses and normal mirror or use magnifying mirror. Smile

dontcallmemam · 07/01/2014 15:44

I find eyelash curlers make me look more awake.

Floisme · 07/01/2014 17:49

Ah gotcha Milly. I wait till I can grab the chin hairs without having to look Grin

littleredsquirrel · 07/01/2014 17:52

Im 40 and I use coconut oil to remove my eye makeup and then leave the residue. I might look dreadful everywhere else but I'm not wrinkly around the eyes!

MadBusLady · 07/01/2014 18:11

I've been using rosehip essential oil around my eyes and on the lip area at night for a couple of months and my (very fine) crows feet have essentially vanished! Am sure they're just being hidden rather than reversed but that'll do for me. I use the Kosmea one.

SouthernPolish · 09/01/2014 21:33

I use SBC collagen serum (rather than the gel already mentioned above ^^) as it is much more concentrated. Found out about it by accident and am now scared NOT to use it, so dramatic are the results on me.

I am a complete cream/serum addict and have tried loads out, including much more expensive ones (Emma Hardie, Sarah Chapman, Elemis, Clarins, Decleor etc). But if I stop using the SBC serum the crows feet return! So I have a 'stockpile' now....

Cheapest on eBay, Amazon or from QVC in a pack with other items (use or give away as gifts), check the pricing out carefully. Rarely worth buying as a single item on QVC.

Rattitude · 10/01/2014 19:29

I was also about to suggest wearing sunglasses but Burnishedsilver has beaten me to it.

I wear mine all year long and have done so for years: I am 46 and have no wrinkles around my eyes.
