To ombré or not to ombré

I have been wanting to have ombré hair for about a year, however as I got married in December everyone talked me out of it - saying i'd regret it on the wedding photos - fair point, I love my pictures and glad I didn't.

However, now the wedding has happened and I'm back wanting it again! I am a natural ginger, it's not bright ginger, more a strawberry blonde, but definitely more strawberry than blonde. I want the ends to go to blonde.

Do I take the plunge and do it? Family and husband say no, that my hair colour is lovely/unique/I'd ruin it/love me the way I am etc. Friends say go for it.

Decisions, decisions!

It doesn't sound like the ombré colour difference will be noticeable. Anyway isn't ombré kind of over now? Doesn't seem worth ruining lovely natural hair colour for.

It's not my favourite look but you've wanted it for so long, I think you should try it.

FracturedViewOfLife · 05/01/2014 05:01

I say go for it. If you change your mind afterwards ruin your hair/ hate it it is only the ends. Easily cut out or dyed over. I had mine ombre for a while.

RalphGnu · 05/01/2014 07:45

Go for it. if you don't like it you can re-dye or cut off.

dexter73 · 05/01/2014 08:40

Definitely try it. As Fractured says, it is only the ends.

Deathwatchbeetle · 05/01/2014 08:43

Personally I think it looks 'skanky' but each to their own. If you want to go for it, do so.

BunnyLebowski · 05/01/2014 08:44

I wouldn't. It's very passé now.

Mumelie · 05/01/2014 09:17

Don't do it! I had a nightmare trying to colour mine out as I didn't want to cut out what I had taken ages to grow. Colour On top of the ends just seems to wash out really quickly and makes my hair look very dull. Your hair colour sounds beautiful as it is.

SundaySimmons · 05/01/2014 09:23

Your natural hair colour sounds as if it is beautiful and unusual/unique.

Why dye it and look like loads of others who have had it done?

I don't like the look to be honest,

madmomma · 05/01/2014 09:32

No! It's over, and IMHO looks trashy. If you wanted to do it, the time was 18m ago.

Lairyfights · 05/01/2014 10:03

Ahh I think you're right ... I don't want to look trashy or to ruin my hair! Spent the last year trying to get it all healthy and shiny after a ton of steroid meds I don't want to ruin it! Maybe I'll just go splash out on some hair treatments instead!

I think it looks lovely, personally Smile

I have strawberry blonde hair which I normally dye bright ginger (it's faded a lot now though) and I bought one of the l'oreal ombre kits. Have to say it didn't make a big difference, I probably should have left it on longer but I didn't want to damage my hair!

Unfortunately even though I didn't leave it on for the maximum time I noticed more hair than usual coming out and it was "stretchy" Confused if you get it done don't make my mistake and DIY, get it done in a salon!

Luckily mine is very subtle and I didn't dye loads of my hair so I can just get it chopped off when I'm bored of it!

foolssilver · 05/01/2014 12:01

How about balayage (sp?), just had mine done and it's a lot more natural looking as the colours blend better and aren't a block line. I got 3 blended colours and very pleased with it.

Wait for it to come into fashion again. Won't be long...
