Searching for perfect cashmere jumper

Searching through the sale racks for that perfect cashmere jumper. They all seem to be made in China! Can any of you recommend a make that's been fairly long-lasting?

I bought a lovely one from Tesco before Xmas , it's washed and has worn lovely. Better than more expensive ones I had Smile

I discovered Pure Cashmere, now Pure Collection some years ago. I have 6 items from them ( and am getting 2 more soon) as well as giving my mother one of their jumpers for Christmas.
All garments wash well on a handwash/wool cycle and are well made. I cannot comment on the Gussato range, but I have several items from the boyfriend range and am more than pleased.

Brora if your budget will stretch.

AndIFeedEmGunpowder · 04/01/2014 18:31

My Brora cashmere jumper has lasted forever. They are £ but are made in Scotland. I think the sale is on atm but they don't reduce by much.

Pure is fabulous. The White Company has a sale on too now.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 04/01/2014 18:35

I bought one from Tesco butter over a year ago Grin . I wore it on the Saturday before Christmas , lovely, warm soft .
Machine washable @ 30c
Washed it in a net bag with my other delicates (Woolite and Comfort) then flat dried. Absolutly fine.

I paid £20 for it (half price in sale) and I'm really pleased.

M&S had a few cashmere jumpers today on their sale rail (about £60) but mainly grey and not my size Sad

Brora. I have a few jumpers and they last so well. You can wash them in the machine and they come out fine. My oldest jumper is 10 now and still looks like new. They really are worth buying.

Brillenbar · 04/01/2014 18:38

Brora is fab. Sale is on, but not much reduced if you hold fire and keep checking back they do reduce things by quite a lot more but you will still need to pay c. 120 to 130 for a standard crew neck. The quality and colours are bettered by none though. You can pick bargains up on ebay if you don't mind pre-loved!

pixelchick10 · 04/01/2014 19:00

shall keep checking Brora

Although the sale deals seem to be mostly sold out in my size :(

Bora, chinti & parker and johnstons of elgin - all made in the UK. £££ but as with most things - you get what you pay for.

pixelchick10 · 04/01/2014 20:51

anyone tried uni qlo - love the colours and they are a very reasonable £59 full price

OP posts:
MrsCampbellBlack · 04/01/2014 20:54

I would suspect they're made in China too though - sorry, I thought you were after UK cashmere.

pixelchick10 · 04/01/2014 20:56

I don't mind China if they last - seems items from China are very variable in quality - some good, some bad

MrsCampbellBlack · 04/01/2014 20:58

There's a lot of stuff out there about differing quality of cashmere and why its worth buying brands like brora if you google.

IME cheap cashmere just doesn't wash and wear well.

Rubybrazilianwax · 04/01/2014 21:12

I have two black roll necks from Tesco, that I have worn loads for well over a year. They are my standard everyday wear. They are in great condition

coffeeinbed · 04/01/2014 21:22

Pure Cashmere bobbled badly on me.
A shame, because I really wanted one of their cassato jumpers.

Awks · 04/01/2014 21:31

I have a Brora one, an Edinburgh Woollen, Jaeger, F & F and Tu. The Brora one is a million times better than all the rest, but the Tu one isn't bad at all though there aren't that many styles to chose from.

Snowdown · 04/01/2014 21:54

Pure cashmere creases and bobbles easily. It looks really scruffy, needs pressing between wears.
I have uniqlo too, I think it's better than pure.

MrsMcGregor · 04/01/2014 22:18

I'm really pleased with a Pure boyfriend crew neck which I bought before Christmas. It's really lovely but Imhave only worn it a few times with something underneath so haven't washed it yet. I also ordered, at the same time, a polo but got the sizing wrong and they're sold out now. I am, however, exchanging that for the boyfriend Rollneck. I got DM one of their jumpers a couple of years ago and it has washed and worn really well for her. Here is a link to their website detailing the origins of their cashmere which comes from Mongolia.

mcgilly · 04/01/2014 22:37

Brora but the older ones are better ... World cashmere supplies have become more competitive? I also have a perfect much worn 10 yo Brora but my recent purchases are a bit harder to justify. I am much happier with the merino/cashmere mix jumpers from Woolovers - some dodgy colors but also some great stuff and such a good price. Wash amazingly well and as soft as my Brora jumper. I have bought one M & S cashmere jumper on sale last year and it has washed really well, but that was very lucky. If you want Brora they will do further reductions and check out their clearance section. Beware - a good cashmere jumper is addictive.

mcgilly · 04/01/2014 22:38

Brora can bobble too ... They sell good cashmere combs. Hand wash!!

DolomitesDonkey · 05/01/2014 08:17

Liz jones article last weekend linked to UK suppliers - ie cashmere from Scotland, not animal cruelty.
