I'm 31 and a complete frump. How do I fit in with all the young, pretty girls? I can see me regretting this.

A friend of mine did this at 40 and hasn't looked back. She made loads of friends and now has her own salon and of course looks amazing!

Good luck, 31 is the new 19. Wink

I did it at 30 and wasn't the oldest by far! You'll be wearing whites all day - hair tied back and no nail lacquer so no need to get dressed up or feel frumpy :)

Squidwardtenticles · 04/01/2014 17:51

Thanks squoosh. My nerves are getting the better of me

Thanks choc. I was considering not going because of the worry.

At the risk of sounding really bitchy I would much rather see an "older" beautician than a lot of the younger ones that I see at my local college. They all seem to have those ridiculous cartoon like eyebrows and fake than that finishes at their side of their necks (I am being bitchy now, aren't I Grin)

So to answer your questions, you're definitely not too old, I just started a complementary therapies course in September (massage, reflexology, etc ) and I'll be 40 this year. Good luck and enjoy Thanks

cannotfuckingbelievethis · 04/01/2014 17:56

fake than ? I meant fake tan of course !

chocolatiere · 04/01/2014 17:56

Please go - what's the worst that can happen? I doubt they'll all get in a circle and point at you whilst laughing hysterically!

Chin up - big girl pants on and get excited about learning something new.

I need to take my advice - I'm in SUCH a rut Grin

I did one a couple a couple of years ago. We ranged from 17-50 years old, the best people in our class were the older ones! I'd much rather see a mature beauty therapist than a young one tbh.

I trained as a Beauty Therapist in my early 40's and I certainly wasn't the oldest on the course . I have since completed my level 3 diploma as well as various holistic therapies.
Many clients have actually said they prefer to have their waxing etc done by a more mature therapist .
You will love it Smile

verytellytubby · 04/01/2014 18:46

What course are you doing? I'm seriously considering it and I'm 40.

emsyj · 04/01/2014 19:02

I've done 2 makeup courses, a hairstyling/hair up course and a spray tanning course and haven't felt a frump (despite being one) on any of them! I was surprised that, actually, it's not just young, glamorous girls who do this stuff - I wasn't the oldest on any of them and I made some lovely friends in the process.

verytellytubby · 04/01/2014 19:07

I'm feeling really encouraged!

Squidwardtenticles · 04/01/2014 19:24

just a beauty level 1 course Very. I hate my job and I would love to be able to work for myself.

iloveeverton · 04/01/2014 19:46

Good luck!

Squidwardtenticles · 04/01/2014 19:52

If you're not already signed up to salongeek.com, take a look OP. It's a friendly forum for beauty and hairdressing professionals and trainees. Good for tips and advice.

verytellytubby · 04/01/2014 20:17

Good luck Squid. Hope it works out for you. I'm just investigating courses now. I'll keep you posted!

LadyMud · 04/01/2014 20:51

I used to teach the business modules on the Beauty Therapy courses at an FE college. The older students were MUCH BETTER than the school leavers. Better assignments, better people-skills, everything . . .

daisydee43 · 04/01/2014 20:58

I would have loved to do beauty but some days my hair doesn't even see a brush. I did adult ed college and it's really enriched my life (I was the youngest as I did horticulture)

Squidwardtenticles · 04/01/2014 23:32

Thanks for giving me the kick up the backside I needed Grin
