How do I get my hair colour as close to this as possible?

I've been dying my hair blonde for many years and fancy a change. I am naturally very pale with nonexistent eyebrows and this is the darkest I am willing to go! My hair is currently platinum so would I need to dye it a dark blonde before putting on a copper colour? Or opt for a mid brown with copper/red in it? I don't want it to be very red, just slightly auburn. Any advice would be gratefully received :)

You could have a look at Nice & Easy. I use their Warm Auburn which might be a bit dark for you, but they have a Light Auburn too which I think would be around that colour.

It might be worth getting advice from a hairdresser though, or getting it done professionally, as going from platinum to auburn you might risk your hair going orange.

I went this colour or very similar a few years back, im naturally very fair and one day fancied a change so hairdresser put a all over colour on it, looked fab for first few weeks very shiney, then it fades and frankly looked dull and ginger, it does require maintenace to keep it looking nice! Oh and also couldn't leave house without full face of make up as I just looked dead!

But do it, it's a lovely colour and I often dream of going make that colour

Thank you! Orange is what I want to avoid so thank you for the colour recommendation! Good point, I'll ask a hairdresser.

I love, love the colour! Very much looking forward to having a change :)

I started a thread fairly recently about going blonde to copper. Mixed responses really.
I decided to for it and got nice and easy foam in light auburn. My hair is naturally dark blonde and had lighter blonde highlights, it looks just like the colour in the picture now. It was on offer

I really recommend Nice n Easy Perfect 10 Reddish Blonde. It's what I use and it's perfect! I can't find it in shops atm but it's avaliable online on amazon and boots etc.

I went from platinum to copper. But at a hairdresser. I'd really recommend it!

If you put anything over dyed platinum/light blonde hair it is going to come out very, very vibrant and then wash out very quickly. If you want to do this yourself then your best bet is to grow the blonde out then use an auburn/copper dye on your natural hair.

I've tried to go copper red over platinum blonde at least 5 times in the last 2yrs and it has always turned out a complete disaster. Like you I've been dying my hair blonde for years and although my hair is very short and I have it cut regularly the blonde dye does dry it out so your hair becomes very porous and acts like a sponge with any new dye. My hair was initially very vibrant and a lovely copper but within about 2 washes it had changed colour and you could see the blonde coming through at the ends. To maintain the colour I ended up having to dye it every 2 weeks which is bad for your hair and your bank balance !

Not the answer you wanted, I know, it's not what I wanted to hear either. How long is your hair ? Would it take very long to grow out the blonde ? If I were you I'd concentrate on trying to get my hair in the best possible condition right now and lay off the blonde dye so that should you opt to dye it this colour the hair will be able to hold onto the dye a bit better.

Glad some of you took the plunge and liked the end result!

Cannot - that is what I'm worried about. I've had a short pixie cut for over a year and decided to grow it a few months ago so it is now shoulder length. I haven't dyed it for a few months either so there is a fair bit of natural hair because I do want to avoid the vibrancy you describe.

Is it too much to put a dark blonde on and then the light auburn or will that completely ruin my hair?

south & dolt I'm not sure why but when it comes to my hair, I'm a mega control freak. To let someone else do it and end up not liking it is my worse fear. I've been doing my own hair for 10 years, I'd be a mess if I let someone else do it. Silly, I know.

If you must do it yourself (eek!) why not strip the colour first. You can get stripping products from boots.

Is this the colour
www.superdrug.com/superdrug/superdrug-vibrance-rich-copper-gold-834/invt/275280&bklist=

or you could professional hair colour online, L'Oreal Magirel is good.

Blonde pixie cut here too !

DoItTooJulia - I'm not a hairdresser (but have lots of experience of messing around with colour Grin) and from what I understand you can't strip blonde from the hair. When you "dye" your hair blonde what you're actually doing is stripping the natural pigment from your hair which is why it often results in a yellow/orange tone for a lot of people who then need to use toners it to achieve a natural blonde. When you dye it red, brown or black, for example, you are depositing colour onto the hair and therefore the colour can be stripped.

"AllIwant* - If you have a fair bit of regrowth then what I would be worried about is the red dye taking really well to your natural hair (nearer the roots) but washing out really bad on the parts that are still blonde. Then you'd be left with a weird two-tone effect. Were you growing your hair because you wanted rid of the colour or the style. I love my pixie cut so if I were you I'd be tempted to get it cut short again and then dye it red Grin

I used Loreal Feria in Mango and then Paprika, both came out brilliant initially until I had to wash my hair. As previously mentioned Majirel are really good. Do you have a Sallys or Salon Services near you ? Sometimes (but not always) the staff in there have actually trained as hairdressers so they might be able to advise and let you look at some colour charts.

I still long for lovely shiny copper hair but am too vain to grow the platinum blonde out....the thought of seeing grey in my roots scares the shite out of me !
