Plymouth bra shopping

I am going to be in Plymouth on 11th Jan and was wondering if there is anywhere that sells underwired nursing bras. I won't have dd with me so I will actually get the opportunity to try on something :o

Plymouth is a bit of a bra desert I'm afraid with no independent bra shops! You could try Debenhams (ask for Gemma or Jemma) or House of Fraser (beware of the older ladies, they'll put you in a bigger band than you need). M&S is appalling.

There is quite a good shop in Saltash if you'v got time to pop across the bridge.

RubberBaubles · 02/01/2014 16:45

I'm up with the Guides. They are watching the panto and I got out of that so have a couple of hours to myself so Saltash isn't an option. :(

I try to wear my 34H JL fitted bra where I can to get used to it but pesky dd keeps wanting to be fed so I end up just in my crappy 42D nursing bras.

Are you in Devon or Cornwall?

Don't know if either of these help but there is the most fabulous shop in Hayle, sadly the Truro branch has gone but well worth the trip, lots of stock held and very kind helpful staff. It is called Blush Lingerie.

Also there is another good indie shop in Launceston, really really good selection Of nursing and best post baby fitting i ever had also lots of sports bras it is called undercover. If you know your size they are also on line, leaving you free to enjoy a magazine and glass of wine at cafe rouge while DD is at panto!

I'm in Cornwall. I've been fitted in the Truro Blush and they were terrible, insisting that I am a 40E when I am nowhere near that.

Plymouth is just pretty crap when it comes to shopping! Debenhams stocks it's own Gorgeous brand and a few (very few) Freyas and Fantasie. HoF (really the only decent clothes shop now Zara has shut) stocks Gossard, Freya, Fantasie, Playtex, Elle MacPherson etc.

thekitchenfairy · 02/01/2014 19:01

Oh no Rubber sorry to hear that I really rate them.

I can no longer get to Launceston easily but went to Blush on recommendation, have to say it was one of the best fittings I have ever had and got fitted properly for a sports bra too, which was a complete revelation!

What about Bump to Baby in St Austell? Depends on your location but there is a former midwife who runs a specialist bra fitting service out of her home in Gunnislake, IIRC it is called Mammamazng.

They don't hold much range but a reasonable selection of Fantasie and Freya at Trevails in Truro and they have a fitting service too.

Have you thought about posting on Local, Mumsnet Cornwall & Scillies btw?

Its a bit quiet on the boards at the mo but there May be some more feedback out there as have to admit its been a few years since I needed a nursing bra!

RubberBaubles · 02/01/2014 19:26

Trevails was the first place I went, they also say 40E :(

The problem is that I want underwired nursing bras and hardly anywhere seems to stock them. I have never worn underwires as I found them uncomfortable but I now realise it is because I always went to M&S and therefore they were the wrong size. I want to get underwired nursing bras as dd is only 19 months so I still have a long way to go before ditching the nursing bras.

Unfortunately there are very few underwired nursing bras. Anita is one see here however the sizing is different as they don't do double letters. So an H in most brands is a K in them...which they don't make. Emma Jane is similar - no FF or GG and stop at an H. The other one I am aware of is Ewa Michalak, a polish brand linky here who I love although I haven't tried their nursing bras.

What most people seem to end up doing is finding a comfortable standard bra and converting it using a kit you can get on ebay. If you look for posts by a poster called HazleNutt she has outlined how to do it.

I suspect you're not going to find underwired nursing bras in your size in a store.
