Am thinking of buying a three wick but want something which will burn down well. Recommendations please?

The White Company's Winter. It's not too strong

polyhymnia · 02/01/2014 14:56

Yes that's a nice one (Winter). Generally my favourite brand is Diptyque.

Darkchocsprinkles · 02/01/2014 15:16

I have the White Company Winter one, and a few Diptyque. Diptyque are far superior imho - even a single wick gives better scent than the White Company. Plus dh and the dc think the White Company one smells of loo cleaner Grin

Grin Darkchoc. I had some Partylite candles in years gone by and they were lovely but you can only buy them via their party hostesses. Have tried one of the White Company candles in a jar but it ceased to burn at all once it got half way down. Shall go browse Dipytique now. Thank.

Yankee Candle's cotton!

ProfondoRosso · 02/01/2014 15:31

Diptyque all the way for me. I've loved them for ages. my favourites are:

Feu de bois (wood smoke)
Figuier (lovely and fresh, figgy and grassy)
Fenouil Sauvage (wild fennel, very smoky)
Tubereuse (sweet, but still quite earthy tuberose)
Pomander (spicy and incense-y)

My all time favourite is a discontinued one called Curiosite' - it's meant to smell like ink and writing desks and it kind of does! In a hard to explain way.

werenotreallyhere · 02/01/2014 15:31

I got Rituals' Jasmine Dream for Xmas and it's lovely

redmayneslips · 02/01/2014 16:18

Jo Malone Pomegranate Noir - DH gets me one from the dc every year for the past 5 years, LOVE them! Currently have about an inch of the old one and a new one in the box

I also like Diptyque too

timidviper · 02/01/2014 16:28

My experience has been that expensive ones are very little better than cheaper ones so I now just buy from TKMaxx and, occasionally, supermarkets.

I have had loads of the makes mentioned; Jo Malone roomscenters, Diptyque, White Company (all nice but not out of the ordinary). I have a large Zara Home one in which the wick burns down to a little nub then extinguishes itself in the melted wax so overall, not impressed.

Melt candles are lovely but expensive unless you can get to the shop and buy seconds

RedPencilPot · 02/01/2014 16:39

Make sure you buy clean burn candles and this usually means spending more.

The black smoke from the Yankee candles is awful.

Swan creek candles are very reasonable priced and there's no black smoke from them, so I always feel they are healthier to breathe in!

umiaisha · 02/01/2014 16:46

I love the Yankee baby powder and clean cotton. Also got the scicilian lemon for xmas which I am saving for the summer months.

A friend bought me a gorgeous Anthropologie Angel Food one which smelt divine but didn't burn right to the bottom so about a third of it is wasted.

ThePearShapedToad · 02/01/2014 16:49

I love the bath and body works 3 wick candles (sadly only available in the states sob sob)- they scent the room beautifully and burn so cleanly, no wastage half way up the sides of the jar.

Unfortunately unless you are prepared to pay a 200% mark up on amazon or ebay, they remain a once a year treat when I manage to get to the states Sad

HyvaPaiva · 02/01/2014 17:03

Tom Dixon Eclectic collection in Royalty and Orientalist scents.

MrsMcGregor · 02/01/2014 17:08

I think I need to go to HoF and smell Jo Malone then. We don't have anywhere selling Dipytique and even HoF is a 90 mile drive - sigh. I wanna go tomorrow! ... but can't!

St Eval candles are fantastic, the Sea Salt and Bay & Rosemary are my favourites. The bonus is that they are made in Cornwall and have a brilliant throw with no wastage.

DrNick · 02/01/2014 17:23

You buy a candle that smells of smoke?

DameDoom · 02/01/2014 17:25

Molten Brown 3 wicks have great throw and burn very evenly and cleanly.

DrNick · 02/01/2014 17:27

DrNick · 02/01/2014 17:27

O

DrNick · 02/01/2014 17:27

what are Aveda like?

ProfondoRosso · 02/01/2014 17:31

I like wood smoke type smells in candles, DrNick. They're quite spicy and incense-y. This may have something to do with being a Catholic. Grin

I wouldn't buy one that smelled of fag smoke or a bust microwave.

DrNick · 02/01/2014 17:31

Or burning plastic

ProfondoRosso · 02/01/2014 17:36

Yeah, or when you accidentally get a bit of your hair in the flame! Blush

MrsMcGregor · 02/01/2014 17:43

I don't like the fresh, citrusy scents. I wonder which brand is best for me? My preferred Partylite was Mulberry. Has anyone heard of or bought Partlite? Wondering how others rate them compared to, say, Tye White Company or one of the more expensive brands?
