Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions regarding dry skin. I was on Accutane treatment for severe acne about 10 years ago, which is known to cause very dry skin. It seems to have decided to last a very long time with me though! Does anyone have any tried and tested suggestions for products for sensitive skin which may help please? Usual moisturizers don't seem to work for some reason. Thanks!

I wish I would remember to read before posting! Roaccutane, not accutane is what I was on about!

I have eczema prone dry skin and have struggled to find things that work.

At the moment I use superdrugs vit E hot cloth cleanser and aveeno daily moisturiser. I also use superdrugs skin restoring oil at night. This combination has worked for a few months and my skin is soft and
Though if I have a very bad flare up nothing will work but betnovate ointment for a few days on the worst patches. I also don't wear make up very often but if I do I use MUAs primer and boots no7 essentially natural foundation which is very light.

Things that have worked in the past have been lushs dream cream, body shops old aloe Vera cream (now discontinued). I use oilatum, dermol cream and betnovate on DSs eczema but this is too oily for me.

*soft and not itchy.
(Don't know how that got missed off Smile)

Coconut oil to cleanse - rub about a tsp of oil into your face and neck for 1-2 minutes, then remove gently with a warm wet flannel. It dissolves eye make up and every thing. Then I use a little smear of it to moisturise afterwards. I only do this at night, just use rosewater on cotton wool in the morning. You can use coconut oil as a moisturiser all over your body - rub into wet skin when coming out of shower, then pat dry with towel

Astral moisturiser - cheap as chips and the best moisturiser I've ever used for my dry, dehydrated skin. It makes my skin glow and I wouldn't dream of using anything else.

Drink loads of water, cut way back on caffeine, booze and sugar

I started taking Omega 3,6,9 (just one pill!) oils every day about 2 months ago and I think that skin is looking perkier

One more thing - eating good fats in the form of olive oil, avocados, nuts, makes a huge difference too

The only facial moisturiser working for me at the moment is Clinique Moisture Surge Intense (or it's called something similar), I then use their Moisture Surge CC cream on top. Emollient wise I use Cetraban and I'm using that on my hands constantly as the others were irritating them. If anyone has a recommendation for dry skin around the eyes please let me know because I currently look like a flakey mess.

My skin tends to dry in the winter & it's very sensitive. What works for me is:

A good night cream such as Guinot Intensive Nourishing cream, Neal's Yard Frankincense Nourishing cream, Logona Wild Rose night cream, Dr Hauschka rose night cream.

A creamy cleanser & day moisturiser - I use Logona Wild rose cleanser and day moisturiser.

No water or alcohol on your face - I use oil based makeup remover and a toner with no alcohol in - Acqua Distillata Alle Rose (Rose Wate) by Manetti Roberts.

Lots of oil treatments - I use olive oil, Vit E oil, Avocado, Rose Hip, Weleda rose oil ampoules.

That has basically transformed my skin and I no longer suffer from dryness.

And I agree with trying to drink more water and cutting back on alcohol and caffeine. My skin has been much better since I got pregnant and cut back to 2 cups of tea or 1 coffee a day and 1 small glass of wine a week. I wasn't much of a drinker to begin with but I did love my caffeine hit.

La Roche Posay Baume B5 is the only thing I've found to sort my dry skin out.

I use LRP Physiological face wash first, then slap a load of face cream on afterwards, twice a day has worked wonders :)

I agree with adding more healthy fats into your diet. Only thing that made a real difference to my skin

Thanks everyone, some good pointers on here to look into.

I get very bad dry skin in winter and splashed out on crème de la mar cream this winter. I don't need to use loads of it and my skin doesn't feel tight. Not sure it is doing anything for my wrinkles though. My colleague swears Astral does the same job.

Use a cream or oil cleanser, not water, on your face. I've used Cliniques cream cleanser for years for my v dry eczema prone skin.

Dr Haushkas rose cream is very moisturising as is their rose oil. For a fraction of the price try Waitrose Baby Bottom butter, made from olive oil and vanilla essence I think and little else. It's designed for babies so v good for sensitive skin.

The most soothing, moisturising balm I’ve ever used though was made for me by a friend (who went on a short course), it’s made of beeswax and a couple of drops of rose oil and Vit E oil. And thats it. It took her about 5 mins to make it and it lasts for months.

Werenotreallythere: I’ve used Dr Hauschka’s eye balm around my eyes, it’s worked better on dry flakes than any eye cream I’ve found.
