So I love DvF dresses

I am thinking I will probably buy a new DvF dress as a treat. But was wondering if there were any other designers that I might like.

Am a fan of their wrap dresses and large of nork.

TIA.

IMHO if what you want is a dvf wrap dress, or one of her dresses with lovely draping or ruching, you won't find it anywhere else, or at least it won't be the same quality! Why don't you stalk the matches sale for when they reduce to 50 to 70 PC off. I got the bec dress last summer (recommendation on here) for 80 squid and it is the most beautiful thing,

MrsMarigold · 31/12/2013 16:22

I'm so cross I had a ruched DVF and I was taking stuff to the charity shop and accidentally scooped it up and only realised after it had sold! grrrr. Have you tried Issa?

bookishandblondish · 31/12/2013 17:06

I love DVF dresses and generally have two or three on the go at a time.

The other labels in my wardrobe with dresses that really work for me ( hourglass/ size 14) are:
Hugo Boss - I have a shift and a shirt dress
Piazza Sempone - gorgeous Italian label which does lovely clothes
Issa - although mine hasn't lasted despite rarely wearing it
Ralph Lauren - shirt dress

Dresses I've tried and not bought, but which worked included Donna Karen ( couldn't justify it even in the sale) and Max Mara - looking for something specific and ended up with skirt and a top.

At the high st end, very few dresses ever work for me as the waist is always in the wrong place. Hobbs has one dress style which works - an a-line shift but I haven't seen one this year. Jasper Conran at Debenhems did a lovely wrap dress in 2007 - and to my knowledge has never repeated it.

By the way, with the exception of the Hugo Boss shift ( bought with bonus as a suit) and the DVF dresses, the majority of my clothes are bought in sales with at least 50% and mostly 60-70% off.

I did have (and can't bear to throw away) a DvF dress which I loved. The only problem is my ex put it in the wash. We are going to Bicester next week so will have a look in the outlet shop.

Otherwise there are a few in the matches sale I do quite like...

Out of curiosity - what happened to it after the washing machine?

I just wear mine out - they start of as being good dresses for almost every type of event, then migrate to work wear and then die.

StatisticallyChallenged · 31/12/2013 19:21

Just eyeing up a few - I have about a 14" difference between hips and waist, and not much less between waist and bust...

How does the sizing come up?

HalleLoujaandHappyNewYear · 31/12/2013 19:45

Book it just doesn't hang right. I wore it last year to a Halloween party when I dressed up as a witch but not suitable for wearing when sober people are around.

Mine was a size 8 and am a standard 12 (or 14 mainly to cover boobs).

KosherBacon · 31/12/2013 20:13

eBay! I've bought a couple off eBay and even sold one if them on for profit.

Curioustiger · 01/01/2014 10:54

I think wrap dresses are one of those things where you just have to pay for quality. I am not a clothes snob at all but generally the cheaper wrap dresses look lumpy and bumpy as they're a lighter fabric so don't hang as well (honourable exception: one from Oasis that I bought in 2007 and still looks new). I would stick to DVF.

bookishandblondish · 01/01/2014 15:16

Halle - mine are size 10 and I generally wear them with a slip underneath. I tried a size 8 ( as it was the only one they had in stock of a design) and although I could wear it, it was too tight on me.

The London store did say that some people get poppers added so they don't need a camisole under.

Twinklestein · 01/01/2014 15:45

My name is Twinkle and I'm a DvF-aholic. I've picked up some amazing bargains on ebay as well as in the sales. Either a DvF or an Issa is going to be a good investment...

Kosher - next time sell it to me. Xmas Wink

HalleLoujaandHappyNewYear · 01/01/2014 17:04

[Googles Issa]

Nice. This looks lush faux wrap

bookishandblondish · 01/01/2014 18:21

I like

dontcallmemam · 01/01/2014 18:28

Not in the same league, but I have a couple of Ingenue dresses which are a bit similar.

I love my classic wrap dress from Isabella Oliver/baulkjen (the non maternity stuff). About £100 if I recall .

I love DVF wraps but I'd like a more up to date version - like it or not, the classic wrap has to be one of the only things right now that looks old fashioned and not in a retro way. Any thoughts?

HalleLoujaandHappyNewYear · 01/01/2014 20:08

The Issa ones on outnet look lovely. The dvf ones on there aren't so great.

HalleLoujaandHappyNewYear · 01/01/2014 20:12

Just looked at the bec dress wouldn't work with witj my figure but gorgeous.

Curioustiger · 01/01/2014 21:11

Corygal I think the plainer ones and definitely the ones without collars are timeless. I think the busy prints can be a bit much though.

I haven't tried them but have been tempted by the banana republic wrap dresses.

Stokey · 03/01/2014 08:58

I've got a Banana Republic one in cobalt. I'd say it's functional rather than wow. Good for a smart work lunch or something similar but not going to set the world alight.

The new patterns they've just released look better tho, and if you're buying online, remember their sizing comes up big. Think mine is a 4 and i'm normally a 10.

Have just been inspired by this to buy a Dvf on sale at Matches so will see how it compares.

HalleLoujaandHappyNewYear · 03/01/2014 09:37

BabyBarrister Anna don't seem to have any wrap dresses but the Norma one looks nice and is half price. Also have an Anna round the corner from me so worth a nose.

AWimbaWay · 05/01/2014 08:59

Just noticed cocosa have some reduced to £130 at the moment.
