How do you keep warm at work but still look smart?

I always seem to be a bit cold! i work in the community but am in and out of the office, so often end up keeping my coat on, which is obviously a bit odd looking and I can't do that in meetings etc. I have a few basic cardis from H&M etc but I think they can make a nice dress look a bit scruffy. What do others do?

Layers - Vests, short and long sleeved
Warm tights
Wooly jumpers

Where do you generally find good stuff Bill - I have lots of opaques but they're not warm especially!

Thermal vests and tights work for me.

Primark do extra warm tights.

Primark thermal fleece tights. Uniqlo heattech underlayers/polo necks.
Layering merino wool top/cardigans. Not too thick as occasionally you will melt - you need to be able to take something off when it is too hot!

Great - thanks for the tips. Would never have thought of Primark, and ahve never shopped at Uniqlo before - presumably they deliver?

Yep, layer under, rather than over. I'm also a fan I the Primark fleece lines tights. Put leggings under trousers and vest tops/long sleeved tops under other things. One of the best things I've got is one of those leotard type types with the poppers - it's smooth under clothes and doesn't ride up, plus it's got capped sleeves so helps keep shoulders warm.

Also I'm wearing boots a lot at the moment, so that I can wear some nice fluffy socks!

I also get cold a lot, like you and I live in the Alps, where it can get bitterly cold in winter. This year I finally gave in and bought some thermal vests from Damart Blush which are low-cut enough to wear with most necklines. I bought both long-sleeved and sleeveless ones.

I also have some thick woolly tights which are great (some are merino wool, some are a silk/cashmere mix), plus I generally wear socks, too, inside my boots. I also bought some fleece insoles which add an extra layer of warmth.

I have quite a few polo necks which are smart enough to wear under dresses without looking too casual. You can then wear a smart jacket instead of a cardigan, without feeling the draughts.
