Does drinking lots of water really make a difference?

I probably don't drink as much water as I should, though don't do too badly compared to many. However 3 things I want to improve are my skin (generally not too bad spot-wise but want to look more glowing and less tired), my energy levels (i have an 18month old and a 3.5yr old so am constantly shattered, just don't want to look it!) and finally i want to lose some weight - I know this will require better diet and exercise but I think I've read drinking more water can help too? Does It really make a difference to any/all of those 3?

Actually just thought maybe this isn't really a style & beauty question... Should I post it somewhere else?

The one time I lost a lot of weight I did drink lots of water. I found it helped my skin and made me a lot more energetic. I am starting again in jan to try and lose a stone and drinking lots of water will be one of the things I will do. Its not going to hurt anyway... can only be a good thing

my new years resolution is to drink more water. it definitely makes a difference for me and I need all the help I can get at the moment.

What is the ideal amount to drink a day? I drink warm lemon wAter throughout which I think us easier to drink.

happyyonisleepyyoni · 29/12/2013 19:25

Not unless you are dehydrated. You need to consume 2l of water a day, but that includes water in food. The body has a handy system to let you know if you need more water, you feel thirsty :)

Does it count toward daily water intake if you put a powdered (low cal powdered lemonade) mix in the water?

42notTrendy · 29/12/2013 19:35

Yes, I think it does make a difference. My skin looks better and I feel less sluggish. I can tell when I'm not drinking enough. I think to get max benefits it needs to be plain old tap water!!

Stylistica · 29/12/2013 19:40

Yes definitely our bodies are primarily made up of water, if you don't drink enough your skin will suffer in the long run! 2 litres a day is max as too much can be dangerous!

moibutbetter · 29/12/2013 20:33

definitely, Im trying to drink 2.5-3 litres of water. i always make sure I drink first litre up to 11 am, then another till 3 pm and another one all evening. It makes your skin looks better, but also it will help you lose weight x

Wenchelda · 29/12/2013 21:43

Thanks all - I think I will make drinking more water (one of) my new year resolutions then. 2l seems a lot though so I might have to build up to that!

Wenchelda I thought that too but buy some sports cap bottles and refill them during the day. I always drink so much more water out of a bottle than a glass!!

Wenchelda · 30/12/2013 08:30

Good idea - it's a bit less daunting to drink 4 small bottles rather than one huge one!

I lost lots of weight when I drank more water. This is because I stopped 'drinking calories' in the form of juice, squash and fizzy drinks (could never give up coffee though). It's honestly shocking how many calories I was getting through (pure) fruit juice.

I'm now target weight and allow myself one can of coke a day but, other than that, I only have water.

thenightsky · 30/12/2013 09:25

When I was doing BIWI's bootcamp last Jan I drank the recommended 2 to 3 litres a day and after about 3 to 4 weeks of this my skin looked a hell of a lot better. My eyes didn't look as deeply set and the dark bags underneath seemed to plump out a bit. I looked less drawn, despite losing weight on the bootcamp diet.
