Face cleansing - SOMETHING's godda change! Help, please

I don't wear foundation or tinted moisturiser normally, so have never used cleansers etc. I don't get spots either (or the occasional one doesn't bother me enough to do anything much about it other than waiting until it's gone Wink).

But my skin is increasingly dry, I am 47 and after each shower the skin on my face feels dry and tight, it looks blotchy and I am desperate to get moisturiser on it. I am now using a night cream as my daily moisturiser because it's the only thing 'heavy' enough to make my face feel comfortable.

Any ideas what I could use in the shower to wash my face with? I am v much a water and (Dove) soap kinda woman - I don't want any kind of complicated 'routine' because I know I wouldn't stick to it.

So, is there any kind of oil based product I could just use while I have my shower without much faff??

TIA.

Yes, it's Lavender but not fusty lavender.

Kind of smells like Grandma got her sexy on Grin

But yes, it's reassuringly low tech.

I am off to have a shower Grin. Sorry, TMI.

But thanks for your Steamcream tip-off.

Op i'd like to add something- don't wash your face in the morning!

Wash at night with what ever method you plump for (I agree oil based cleanser is great with muslin or microfiber cloth).

But don't repeat this in the morning- you skin has spent all night producing its natural SPF & lovely protective oils. If you wash this off you are stripping your skin & leaving it very vulnerable.

Then in the morning just splash with water & put on SPF.

Honey I'm intrigued at your steam cream. Just googled it & it seems marvellous! Do you not use SPF too in the morning though?
(Looks like another mn purchase coming right up!)

No, I have to use one in the summer if my face is naked, so I use a mattifing sun lotion.

Otherwise I rely on the one in my foundation.

I'm probably repeating some of the above, but this is what works for me:

Cleanse face at night only with either: Emma Hardie Moringa Balm, Eve Lom cleanser or Elemis cleansing balm - basically the oily/gloopy ones which go milky in water. I use an Emma Hardie cloth regardless (double sided muslin / microfibre). Twice a week I use a Clarisonic. I never use a foamy cleanser these days as my skin dries out and flares up. In the morning I just wipe my face over with the cloth to freshen up. I use lots of Emma Hardie Night Cream or another layer of Miringa Balm before bed / a decent SPF moisturiser in the daytime.

I am working at the moment and can afford to buy the above brands (although mainly from eBay or QVC TSVs), but when I was utterly skint a year ago I used to ask for them for Birthdays / Christmas or make do with plain sweet almond oil or the amazing Waitrose Bottom Butter (great but harder to remove / greasier).
