Red, bumpy, itchy spots on cheeks and jaw. :-( Help!

I have lots of red, bumpy itchy spots on my cheeks and jaw line. I have no idea what's going on ot why they are there.
I haven't changed anything. I'm not doing anything different.

Anyone got any advice? Confused

Spots in those areas are usually hormonal. I should know, I get them too!

Have you tried BHA cream? I use Paula's Choice (mail order) but there are others. If seems to keep them under control.

Suddengeekgirl · 27/12/2013 21:59

See I thought they were hormonal too. But the GP did a blood test and apparently my hormones are fine. Confused Which is weird as I have had a lot of complaints that seem linked to hormones.

Will have a look for that cream. Thanks! :)

Bumping as ds (4yo) has just told me he thinks I am getting a beard! Shock Blush :(

I think you could still have hormone related spots despite regular hormone levels. I get break outs around my mouth & jaw that are definitely linked to my cycle but my hormone levels are "normal". It has also got worse in my 40s.

Hormone balancing oils such as geranium & frankincense are also excellent skin care oils which might be worth trying?

Suddengeekgirl · 28/12/2013 21:56

These spots don't seem to ebb and flow with my hormones though. Confused

I'm really not sure what to do, whether to overhaul my skin care routine or see the GP again

I get it! It's like a spotty itchy rash.

Doctor prescribed me anti histamines, and a soap substitute called Dermol. Also a cream gel thing called Duac. Cleared it right up.

Suddengeekgirl · 29/12/2013 06:49

Hmm, maybe I should pester the dr again Confused I'm not convinced everything is right hormone wise. Hmm

I don't think the duac cream would work for me though as after a quick google I found out it has benzoyl peroxide. This used to almost burn my face when I had acne as a teen. It would dry out the spot then leave a big red blotch that took ages to heal.

Maybe it's peri oral dermatitis? I have this around my mouth and chin?
Looks like spots but they don't ever have "heads"

I have found Eucerin Atocontrol moisturiser to be the best thing so far - considering getting the treatment version of it after Christmas (it's in Boots)

Suddengeekgirl · 29/12/2013 09:39

I don't think it's that. Although I'm guessing the pics online are more extreme cases. Confused

I haven't done anything different lately so bit sure what the trigger could be.

Going to swap regular moisturiser for some diprobase this morning.

sudden I hardly used the duac because I read up on it too and read it was quite harsh. I used the dermol and tablets though and it went.. whether they worked or it was a matter of time is another story Confused

hope it gets better soon!

Seborrhoic dermatitis? Atopic dermatitis? Perioral dermatitis? (Can be very subtle, mine is just slightly flushed uneven bumpy skin.) Schedule a new visit with your GP, or better yet, a dermatologist. If you have perioral dermatitis, you may need to switch your shampoo and toothpaste and completely rethink your skincare routines.

Suddengeekgirl · 29/12/2013 21:10

Hmmm, I've had a look online at all those dermatitis types. I'm not sure but will try and get a dr appointment when they reopen properly.

I put some diprobase on this morning and it helped a lot but my face has started itching again. :(

Are they itchy white head spots, which are not very big? If yes could be Folliculitis? I had this once and antiseptic wipes from Boots stored it.

Suddengeekgirl · 29/12/2013 21:28

No. They've got no head on them.

They're red, raised, bumps that itch. Confused

Think I ought to see a dr as I either need something for it, or it's a symptom of something else - I thought I was starting menopause (at 32!) but apparently not according to GP. My hormones must be fairly messed up. Confused

My peri oral dermatitis is no where near as bad as the pictures you get when you google.

I think you're right to go back to your GP and push for more help. But please don not let them prescribe any form of steroid cream (hydrocortisone etc) as if it's not peri oral dermatitis - that awful stuff will give you it ( it's how I worsened mine - thanks GP Hmm )
The Atocontrol moisturiser would be a good one to try while you wait for appt.

Suddengeekgirl · 30/12/2013 20:08

I've got some atocontrol cream today.

They're looking better, but the skin where they were appears to be very dry and red Confused I wonder if the sudocreme did that when I thought they were red nasty spots?

Hopefully they're just a nasty breakout and nothing that will still be there by the time I get a dr appointment!

Might be completely different thing, but I get something similar when tree pollen is in the air and gets into my hair.
