Dry itchy skin around eyes

Can anyone please recommend something to help with small patches of dry itchy skin around the eyes? I haven't used any new products so no idea why it's cropped up?

Tia

My friend suffered with this recently and found that it was caused by pen type under eye concealer. It might be worth changing to one in a pot eg benefit boiing as it stays cleaner.

As soon as you said pen I remembered I have been using a new eyeliner pen... It has to be that as the bad skin is in the outer corners where the eyeliner was... Any idea on a quick fix? I look rubbish enough without this adding to it! X

Are you using anything with MI in it?

Apparently more and more companies are adding it to cosmetics and skin cream.

There was something on the redo last week and I listened with horror.

They said that because of it, eczema, contact dermatitis, red rashes etc., are becoming more and more common, effecting the area around the eye the most.

Check out the ingredients of anything you're using. I can't remember the whole flipping name as it really long, but google 'MI skin cream' and you should get it.

Lansinoh is very good for dry skin, eczema etc it's 100% natural lanolin. I use it on my ds and dd who both have little dry patches of eczema.

Aloe Vera moisturiser from the body shop is really good for sore skin, particularly the night cream.

Earth bound organics have some good eczema creams, olive oil is also good and non irritating.

I also recentl heard about the MI problem!

Lazysuzanne · 24/12/2013 13:10

It's Methylisothiazolinone

Ugh, it's awkward because it's so near to your eyes.

As long as it's not too angry, I'd just bathe it with plain warm water. Now you've stopped using the product, it should heal up quite quickly and if the skin's already a bit damaged no cream is going to fix it.

It's such a pain in the arse - when I get a reaction to something it can take up to 3 months to show up and by that time it's hard to work out what caused it.

You could ask a chemist to see if there's something moisturising that's safe for use near the eyes.

I'm having the same problem - interesting about that MI thing, I'll google that. I've just thrown away all my eye make up thinking that something had gone off but still not gone way.

Anyway , just wanted to add that I always use a steroid cream when it's bad enough for moisturising not to work. I had really bad eye lid eczema when I was a teenager and got it prescribed by Dr.

Allergenics non steroid cream is excellent as well.you can buy it on line or in health food shops.

I got told by my dr that dermatologists are reporting an increase in this complaint and there seems to be some suggestion of allergy to nail varnish (which may fit in with the MI thing?) Obviously you put your fingers near your eyes a lot for makeup etc so that's the theory. I've used a little hydrocortisone cream which has helped but would prefer a non steroid option.

JustAWaterForMePlease · 25/12/2013 22:42

I've found that I've suddenly (over the last couple of years) become allergic to a lot of eye make-up, including brands like Clinique which I had previously used with no issues - great to finally have an ingredient to look out for. The only mascara I can use now is the No 7 extreme lengths sensitive one.

Second what others have said - it will go away quite quickly on its own. Just try to avoid itching it! (Easier said than done, I know.)
