Isabella Oliver Maternity - is the stuff any good?

All the pics on the website are in B&W and the catalogue doesn't say what the garments are made of or give the washing instructions

Very expensive and very badly made imo.

I bought a pack of their clothes think included a long sleeve ruched top, ruched vest type top, skirt and trousers. All looked ok to start with but was very thin material and meant for a massive bump I thought.

The hem on the trousers came down and th ruched tops never looked 'right'. Really was a total waste of money.

IMO the few bits I got from Next maternity were far far better quality at about a third of the price. Although again imo all maternity clothing is horrible!

Really wouldn't waste your money at all on Isabella Oliver.

Last time I had some stuff from topshop, H&M, JoJoMaman and Blooming Marvellous

The tops from JoJo and BM were like tents though and BM stuff is all made of sweaty viscose

When I first found out I was pregnant I was determined to get all my bits from Topshop but have found that Dorothy Perkins have been fab.

If you look closely at their jeans they are the same.
I've bought loads of stuff from them and its been very good. Washes well, looks good and isn't expensive.

neena28 · 21/07/2006 15:20

Topshop stuff was quite good too, but a bit was a little too trendy for me and stretch marky bump exposing!!

What size are you? Will see if I can find the isabella oliver stuff i had if you want? Trousers were a bit beyond but the tops were only worn once at most.

KathyMCMLXXII · 21/07/2006 15:21

I got two tops from them - one was a v neck top which is lovely, beautifully cut and makes me look thinner than I would be even if I wasn't pregnant. The other is just bizarre - it's a wrap-around top which is basically just a pair of sleeves with very very long bits of cloth for you to wrap around - you can stand in front of a mirror and adjust it to look lovely but it's completely unwearable in Real Life.

KeepingQuiet · 21/07/2006 15:37

Kathy - was this the wrap top?

Neena - I'm a 16

I think the stuff is good. I like their basics stuff - vest tops etc Top shop v good too.

cupcakes · 21/07/2006 16:04

I have a few things but they're not great. I have a nightie which has bra shelf support. My boobs look great in it but it is too restrictive round my rib cage when I'm trying to sleep. I also bought a vest top thinking I could wear it in summer but it is too transparent (on the nipples so I have had to keep it back as a winter vest. I ordered two bras which I'm sending back as they are not very supportive, just glorified vest tops.
And yet I am still considering buying their a-line skirt for the autumn.

neena28 · 21/07/2006 17:48

Sorry keeping quiet all my stuff would be for 8-10, not even sure I kept it.

Notanotter hits the nail on the head imo.

Sittingbull I was a size 8/10 with a little bump and found their stuff to be too big in the bump bit was fine for the last couple of days I suppose. Totally agree about the fabric though. So crap!

satine · 21/07/2006 17:50

I got nearly all my maternity clothes from H&M second time around, having spent far too much the first time in shops like BM and Formes. H&M stuff is about as trendy as maternity clothing ever gets, it's hard wearing, comfortable and - best of all - pretty cheap!

Enid · 21/07/2006 17:52

try ebay

I'm 5'10" and looked like a freak during my pregnancy. Next stuff, even the extra long length trousers were too short, their tops are too short NOW I'm NOT pregnant, BM was enormous, DP was OK HM were Ok but not for trousers and TBH the best trousers I wore were Mothercare with the hem pulled down and WONDAWEBBED to make them longer.

kikidee · 22/07/2006 05:42

I bought the hipster skirt and wore it a lot to work and I also bought the top Kathy mentioned but I liked it. I was able to wear it from about 16 weeks right through until almost the end because it was adjustable. I agree though that it took a lot of playing around with to make it look right.
