Do I keep new coat?

I have a beautiful rabbit fur coat but am getting progressively worse reactions to it every time I wear it. Should I give it up and sell it on or take antihistamines and enjoy the beauty?!

real fur?

disgusting

fatedtopretendsantaisreal · 23/12/2013 14:53

(Before anti-fur arguments start, it is a vintage fur, I have not ordered rabbits to be culled, there would be no good in just throwing it away)

Honestly? if you're reacting to it, I'd give up on it. If, as you say, the reactions are getting worse each time you wear it, I would definitely look for something else. Sorry

spanishring · 23/12/2013 14:55

No! Fuck anyone else -it's dead and there's enough waste in the world already. Plus it's only rabbits. (Joke )

spanishring · 23/12/2013 14:56

But anthistimines?! Nothing's worth an allergic reaction.

Trifle · 23/12/2013 14:59

Probably because it's rabbit, not the greatest of furs but at least the rest of it probably went into a nice stew. Now, about the fabulous mink coat I;ve recently bought, have had nothing but compliments about it. I have to say, it is stunning so maybe you should upgrade to one of those.

fatedtopretendsantaisreal · 23/12/2013 15:01

I have quite a few furs and never had a rabbit one before, it's the only one I've had a reaction to-maybe it is time to give up on it!

I have no objection to wearing vintage fur but I think having to take medication to do so would put me right off!

A shame but maybe time to retire it Sad .

fatedtopretendsantaisreal · 23/12/2013 15:35

It is just so soft and warm and white!! Hmm

Why not take it somewhere and have it cleaned to see if this will reduce the reaction? (Would have to be somewhere that specialises in fur )

I know people who have allergic reactions to animals / pets wash them to reduce the dander (from the animal saliva)

fatedtopretendsantaisreal · 23/12/2013 19:21

It's been steamed but is really delicate and not sure if it could handle a full clean (have found damage to other furs in the past after sending them).

Thank you for the advice though Smile

Don't think rabbit is worth an allergic reaction!

OneHandFlapping · 24/12/2013 10:36

I can't see why eating animals is apparently morally acceptable, as is wearing leather, whereas wearing fur automatically gets the "disgusting" response.

It all seems a bit hypocritical.

bunnymother · 24/12/2013 10:42

Oh how annoying - I'd have to sell it if I was getting an allergic reaction, and would hate parting with something I loved for that reason, but I'd do it. If you can't actually wear it, you've got to get rid of it. I assume you have already tried taking anti allergy meds, though. If not, try that.

Beaverfeaver · 24/12/2013 12:35

There are so many people wearing fake fur this season, do people really have a bad reaction with yours?

I think it could be hard to tell the difference, and surly they would be embarrassed if they were told it was fake.

(Have you tried telling them its fake?)

Beaverfeaver · 24/12/2013 12:36

Oops. Sorry, I thought you meant that you were getting negative reactions from the public.
Silly me!

Maybe try antihistamines, you may get better with it over time.

Shame to waste it.

bishboschone · 24/12/2013 13:37

One hand flapping , it because of the way they are killed I believe .
